Assessment of 10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding (LMKM) & Stunting in Probolinggo Kabupaten
Regarding the commitment to reduce stunting in Probolinggo Regency, GAIN Indonesia together with the Center for Public Health Innovation (CPHI) of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University facilitated the Development of an Evidence-Based Program (PBB) based on the results of the 10-Step Assessment to Successful Breastfeeding (LMKM).
Probolinggo, 16-17 May 2019- As the area with the highest infant mortality rate in East Java province and the national stunting locus, the Probolinggo district government will be more aggressive in formulating strategic policies related to stunting reduction efforts in Probolinggo district supported by GAIN Indonesia and the Center for Public Health Innovation, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University by carrying out an assessment of 10 LMKM as one of the entry points related to the stunting reduction program.
The Evidence-Based Program Preparation (PBB) activity in Probolinggo Regency was carried out on 16-17 May 2019 which was held at the Probolinggo Regency Bappeda opened by the Head of Bappeda; Mr. Drs. H Tutug Edi Sutomo, MM.
This PBB was attended by Bappeda, Probolinggo District Health Office, district coordinator of GAIN Indonesia, representatives of Independent Practice Midwives, Public Health Centers and Hospitals in Probolinggo District.
The things discussed on the first day on May 16, 2019 were about the presentation of the results of the 10 LMKM assessments and the preparation of evidence-based programs based on the results of the assessment. The activity was continued on May 17, 2019 which discussed strategies for reducing stunting in Probolinggo Regency.
The Center for Public Health Innovation (CPHI) Team of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University also facilitated the preparation of the Evidence-Based Program (PBB) using the Bottle Neck Analysis method which analyzed the obstacles to implementing 10 LMKMs in Probolinggo Regency. The results of this two-day meeting got an agreement on an activity plan in the form of revisions to the governor's regulation to strengthen the implementation of 10 LMKM, SOPs to regulate exclusive breastfeeding, hospitalization, IMD, and improvement of monitoring & evaluation mechanisms involving various OPDs and health service facilities in Probolinggo Regency. . In addition, from the discussion it was agreed to provide training for LMKM staff (ASI & Non-clinical counselors), recruitment of human resources, especially anesthesiologists.
The strategy for the activity plan as a result of the discussion is through cross-sectoral meetings related to program preparation plans, related HR training, and also meeting the needs of each health service facility more optimally. The Head of Bappeda also explained that the stunting meeting will be held after PAK in May to June 2019 as one of the strategic steps to improve health development in Probolinggo Regency. This activity will be led by Bappeda together with the Health Office, Health Facilities and several related OPDs. The Head of Bappeda hopes that through dialogue and discussion between various related OPDs facilitated by the Center for Public Health Innovation , Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, it can be one of the strategies that will be adopted later as a policy proposal to improve community welfare and reduce stunting rates in Probolinggo Regency. The preparation of Health Development towards a better direction is expected to increase the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding so that the nutritional status of children increases and reduces stunting rates in Probolinggo Regency.
