"Controlling the Dangerous Impact of Cigarettes on Public Health"
In order to strengthen the commitment of the regional government of Bali Province in controlling the dangerous impact of smoking on public health, Udayana CENTRAL (Udayana Center for NCDs, Tobacco Control and Lung Health) as part of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University together with the Indonesian Public Health Expert Association (IAKMI) Pengda Bali , the Association of Indonesian Health Services (ADINKES), the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, and the Asia Pacific Cities Alliance for Health and Development (APCAT) held the Bali High Level Meeting for Healthy Cities with the theme "Controlling the Dangerous Impact of Cigarettes on Public Health" on Friday , June 28 2024, at the Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur.
This event was officially opened by the Regional Secretary of Bali Province, Drs. Dewa Made Indra, M.Si. Previously there was a welcoming speech from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Dr. Benget Saragih, M.Epid, Deputy Dean for Student Affairs and Information, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. I Md. Ady Wirawan MPH. PhD, and the Association of Indonesian Health Services (ADINKES) Lily Sulistyowati, MM. The Regional Secretary of Bali Province fully supports tobacco control efforts and a ban on cigarette advertising in Bali. At this event there was also a session giving appreciation to districts/cities in developing cigarette control policies at the district/city level. There are 4 districts that received appreciation, namely Klungkung Regency, Gianyar Regency, Jembrana Regency and Denpasar City. After this session, it was followed by a panel discussion session regarding strategies for strengthening efforts to control the harmful impact of smoking on public health starting from conditions in the community, evaluations, plans, and the potential for strengthening tobacco control efforts in Bali Province. The event was closed by the Chairperson of the Bali Regional Association of Indonesian Public Health Experts (IAKMI), Ni Made Dian Kurniasari, S, KM. MPH.
This activity was attended by 60 offline participants and 10 online participants who came from various elements and agencies, including the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Association of Indonesian Health Services (ADINKES), Provincial Government, Regency/City government, policy makers and stakeholders, health service providers, health practitioners, health professional organizations, and academics.
