Pelatihan Basic Surgical Skills 1 Bali International Training and Development Center (BITDEC)

April 2019, the Indonesian Surgical College (KIBI) conducted training on Basic Surgical Skills 1, Perioperative, Stoma Care , LLL ( Long Life Learning) which was held at BITDEC Tabanan and Hotel Nirmala in Bali Province. This activity was held thanks to the collaboration between the Indonesian Surgical College (KIBI) and The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh which was sponsored by B Braun Indonesia. This activity took place from April 4-12, 2019, which was divided into 2 places, namely the BSS 1 training at BITDEC Tabanan Bali and the other held at the Nirmala Hotel Denpasar, Bali. This period activity was attended by 200 participants from various Surgical Residents registered in all Surgical Education Study Programs in Indonesia as well as guest participants from Sri Lanka. Not only the participants who came from various educational institutions in Indonesia, but also the instructors who came from various surgical educational institutions in Indonesia, including the surgical teaching staff from Udayana University Medical Faculty / Sanglah Hospital.

In this BSS 1 training, all participants were given various knowledge along with clinical skills regarding basic surgical science including aseptic and antiseptic techniques, handling surgical instruments, knot tying and suturing , excision techniques, incision drainage techniques, to proper and correct debridement techniques. The training continued with the theme Perioperative Care, where participants were given courses in managing patients from pre-operative to post-operative. This training is also in collaboration with instructors from the Indonesian Collegium of Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy. In the Stoma Care training, participants are taught how to properly care for a stoma and how to treat wounds and give appropriate wound dressings according to indications. The series of training events closed with LLL training for 2 days, namely training on providing nutrition to postoperative patients and maintaining the quality of life of patients.

Resident of General Surgery Udayana took the time to take a photo with the Head of the Indonesian Collegium of Surgery (KIBI), Dr. dr. Ibrahim Labeda, Sp.B-KBD, FCSI, as one of the teachers in this training. He advised the participants, as prospective surgeons in Indonesia, to be able to become the best surgeons who can advance surgical science in Indonesia and the world. With the slogan and acronym “SURGEON +1”, he teaches and inspires us to always be at the forefront, to be intelligent, skilled and noble-hearted individuals. We thank you for your service to surgical education in Indonesia.

The series of basic training for surgical residents concludes with examinations and the submission of training certificates. Especially for us, surgical residents of Udayana, this training is a mandatory requirement for first-level students. Moreover, this training is expected to be able to improve our quality as surgeons in serving the community. ( SKR/UBI )
