SSOGS XVII SYMPOSIUM AND WORKSHOP
The Surgical Oncology Division of the Udayana Faculty of Medicine again held the XVII SSOGS ( School of Surgical Oncology for General Surgeon ) event which was assisted by a resident of the Surgical Study Program with the topic "The latest Surgical Management for Malignancies in the Breast" and a workshop "Training on Horse-shoe flap technique for breast cancer". Closing the Mastectomy Defect”. This symposium was held at Grand Inna Bali Beach Sanur on the 15th and the Workshop was held at the Sanjiwani Hospital, Gianyar on March 16, 2019. This scientific activity aims to provide the latest developments regarding breast malignancies and teach techniques for closing wound defects after mastectomy surgery.
The symposium, which was held on the first day, was attended by 45 surgeons from all over Indonesia. This event also presented the teaching staff of the surgical oncology division of the Sanglah Central General Hospital as speakers at this seminar, including our professor, Prof. Dr. dr. Tjakra Wibawa Manuaba, Sp.B.(K)Onk, MPH. This event also presented speakers from the oncology surgeon at the Sanjiwani Hospital, Gianyar. This symposium discussed many topics related to breast malignancy, including the management of HER2-positive breast cancer and the management of chemotherapy-resistant breast cancer. This event is expected to be able to equip surgeon participants so that they can improve the welfare and quality of life of breast cancer sufferers in Indonesia.
This series of scientific activities was followed by a Workshop on the second day, which was attended by 27 surgeons. The event started with a presentation on the “ Modified Horse-shoe Flap ” technique presented by dr. IB Suryawisesa, Sp.B(K)Onk. This technique is one of the safe, effective post-breast removal wound closure techniques and has a clear scientific basis. After the presentation, the participants continued the workshop session with dry lab practices and took part in a live demonstration by dr. I Gede Budi Setiawan, Sp.B(K)Onk. All of the surgical oncology staff of the Udayana Faculty of Medicine helped by answering the questions and difficulties of the participants. The event closed with direct practice of breast malignancy patients in the operating room of the Gianyar Sanjiwani Hospital.
