Introducing the Concept of Immunotherapy based on CAR-T Cell and CAR-NK Cell in Cancer, Department of Biochemistry FK UNUD Invites Professor from the University of Otago, New Zealand

In order to introduce the FK UNUD academic community to the concept of immunotherapy-based research in cancer, the Biochemistry Department of FK UNUD held a Guest Lecture which raised the topic "Bi-directional and autoinducible-gene expression for CAR T cell and CAR NK cell therapy" which took place in the Room Prof. Dr. I Goesti Ngoerah Gde Ngoerah. (30/4/2024)

Moderated by Dr. I Gede Putu Supadmanaba, S.Ked, M.Sc, this guest lecture presented a resource person, namely Prof. Alexander Mclellan, Ph.D., from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, University of Otago, Dunedine, New Zealand. This activity was attended by representatives from departments related to the topics of infection, immunology, cancer and immunotherapy as well as several students who are interested in this field of science.

This event was opened by the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs and Information, FK Unud, Prof. dr, I Md Ady Wirawan, MPH., Ph.D. In this guest lecture, the latest concept of a bi-directional transposon system which can express genes involved in CART Cell and CAR-NK Cell therapy is explained. The newest concept in CAR-based immunotherapy was also introduced which uses NK cells with the advantage of greater cell expansion and does not cause Graft-Versus Host Disease (GVHD) in recipients.

It is hoped that this Guest Lecture will open up new topics in cancer research at FK UNUD and provide opportunities for collaboration with the University of Otago and the Immunotherapy Initiative in Southeast Asia.
