Utilization of Climate Data for Health: FK Unud and BMKG Launch DBDKlim Services in Bali


The Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, in collaboration with the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) held a National Seminar and Launch of the 2024 Bali Province DBDklim Service Products which took place in the Dr A.A Made Djelantik Room, FK Unud Denpasar Building. Taking the theme "Climate and Health: Utilization of Climate Information to Anticipate the Occurrence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever", this national seminar aims to introduce DBDKlim services in Bali, as well as deepen several health issues, health services and their relationship to climate conditions. This climate model and information for Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is very necessary for the community, especially the people of Bali, which is the province most vulnerable to dengue fever, with the number of cases continuing to increase since January 2024. With this DHF climate, it is hoped that it can increase community preparedness in tackling Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in Bali.


The event began with remarks from the Chancellor of Udayana University, Prof. Ir. Ngakan Putu Gede Suardana, MT., Ph.D., who in his speech said that this seminar was an important moment in bridging two crucial fields, namely Climate and Health. The Chancellor also said that developing effective understanding and strategies in dealing with the impacts of climate change needs to involve various parties.

"As we all know, climate change has had a significant impact on various aspects of life, including human health. Therefore, on this occasion, I would like to express my appreciation for this seminar, and also the DBDklim Service Products, which have involved BMKG, Bali Provincial Health Service and Bandung Institute of Technology in producing important innovations in the world of health." he said


After the welcoming speech, the event continued with the launch of the Bali province DBDKLIM service product and the presentation of a plaque given by BMKG to the Bali Provincial Government, Udayana University and the Bali Provincial Health Service.


Moderated by Hayat Mansyur, S.Sos and Dr. Siswanto, M.Sc., This National Seminar presented six speakers, namely:

1. Priyanto Rohmattullah, S.E., M.A., as Director of the Environment, with the topic of climate resilient development policies in the health sector,

2. dr. Anas Maruf, MKM., as Director of Environmental Health from the Ministry of Health, with the topic of preparedness/anticipation of a spike in dengue fever cases due to the impact of climate change at the national level

3. Marjuki, M.Si, as Plt. Head of the Center for Applied Climate Information Services – BMKG with the topic of concept, implementation and utilization of DBDKlim services.

4.Dr. Dr. I Nyoman Gede Anom, M. Kes, from the Head of the Bali Provincial Health Service with the topic of the condition of dengue hemorrhagic fever in Bali and the needs of climate-based dengue early warning users.

5.Dr. Sang Gede Purnama, SKM, M.Sc., from the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University with the topic of increasing awareness and benefits of early warning of dengue fever for public health in Bali

6. Prof. Dr. Nuning Nuraini, from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bandung Institute of Technology with the topic of DHF early warning modeling based on climate factors.


This seminar was attended by 150 participants from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, Bali Provincial Government, Udayana University, Bandung Institute of Technology, Bali Provincial Health Service, DKI Jakarta Provincial Health Service, students at Udayana University and several other universities, journalists/media the masses and the general public.


This event was also attended by the Deputy for Climatology at BMKG, the Director of the Environment at Bappenas, the Head of the BMKG Planning Bureau, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, the Head of the Bali Provincial Health Service, Plt. Head of the BMKG Applied Climate Information Services Center, Head of the Arbovirus Working Team, Directorate of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, Ministry of Health, and Head of the Disease Prevention and Control Division of the DKI Jakarta Health Service
