Bachelor of Public Health Study Program Holds International Guest Lecture with Speakers from Harvard University
In order to improve knowledge in the field of prevention and treatment of Tuberculosis (TB), the Bachelor of Public Health Study Program (PSSKM), Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud) held an International Guest Lecture with speakers from Harvard University, USA. With the theme "Innovation in the Treatment of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis: The endTB Clinical Trial", the event was held in the Dr. A.A. Made Djelantik Room, Faculty of Medicine Building, Denpasar. Moderated by the Coordinator of PSSKM FK Unud, dr. Putu Ayu Swandewi Astuti, S.Ked., MPH., Ph.D, this activity presented two renowned speakers in the field of global health, namely:
1. Carole D. Mitnick, ScD, Professor of Global Health and Social Medicine from Harvard Medical School, USA.
2. Lorenzo Gunglielmetti, MD, Ph.D, Research Director endTB from Médecins Sans Frontières, France.
Officially opened by the Dean of FK Unud, Prof. Dr. Komang Januartha Putra Pinatih, M.Kes., on this occasion Prof. Januartha expressed his appreciation for the opportunity for international collaboration and hoped that this activity could broaden the knowledge of students and lecturers about the latest innovations in the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis, as well as strengthen academic relations between FK Unud and global institutions.
Attended by the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Information Prof. dr. I Md. Ady Wirawan, MPH, Ph.D, health practitioners, teaching staff and students of the Bachelor of Public Health Study Program, on this occasion Carole Mitnick and Lorenzo Gunglielmetti explained about endTB clinical research aimed at developing new strategies in the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis with a focus on innovative approaches that have been carried out in various countries. With this research, it is hoped that more effective and efficient solutions will emerge in addressing the global challenge of drug-resistant tuberculosis.
The discussion that took place provided new insights for the participants about the challenges and latest developments in handling drug-resistant tuberculosis, an important health problem in Indonesia and the world. Furthermore, this International Guest Lecture is expected to be the first step for PSSKM FK Unud in strengthening international collaboration for the development of research and academic capacity, especially in the field of public health.
