FK Unud Collaborates with ICS Indonesia to Organize a Seminar and Symposium on Surgical Science

In order to improve competence and discuss the latest developments in the field of Surgery, the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud) through the Surgical Science Specialist Study Program in collaboration with the International College of Surgeons (ICS) Indonesia held a hybrid international seminar and symposium with the main location point in the Prof. IGNG Ngoerah Meeting Room, FK Unud Building Denpasar. (16/11/2024)

The International College of Surgeons (ICS) is a global organization dedicated to bringing together surgeons and surgical specialists of all nations, races, and creeds to promote surgical excellence for the benefit of all mankind and to foster brotherhood throughout the world. This year, ICS Indonesia Section led by Prof. Dr. dr. Sri Maliawan, Sp.BS(K), FICS, had the opportunity to organize a seminar and symposium by inviting Francis J. Podbielski, MD, FICS as the Executive Director of ICS.

Attended by 400 participants and with the theme "From Research to Medical Practice: New Era In Indonesia", the event was divided into 2 offline sessions and 1 online session filled by 14 national and international speakers with various topics. Moderated by Dr. Heru Soetanto Kurniawan, Sp.B., in session 1, there were 5 topics, namely:

1. Ethical Concerns in Surgical by Dr. Peter J Manoppo, Sp.B, MBIO, FINACS, FICS,

2. Current Robotic and Artificial Intelligence in Surgery in The Us by Francis J. Podbielski, MD, FICS

3. Minimal Invasive in Breast Surgery by dr. Arga Patrianagara, Sp.B, Subsp. Onk (K)

4. Role of Genomic testing in Oncologic Case by Dr. Hendry Irawan, Sp. B, Subsp. Onk(K)

5. Role of Nutrition in Oncologic Case by dr. Christian, Sp.GK

In session 2, moderated by Dr. Putu Candra Wibawa, Sp.B., there were 4 topics, namely:

1. Hydrocephalus and it's problem by Prof. Dr. dr. Sri Maliawan, Sp.BS(K), FICS

2. The current state of Osteoarthritis treatment using stem cells by Dr. dr. I Gusti Ngoerah Wien Aryana, Sp. OT(K)

3. Perioperative care for high quality early recovery after surgery by Dr. dr. I Putu Pramana Suarjaya, Sp.An-TI, M.Kes, Subsp.M.N.(K), Subsp.N.An.(K)

4. Update Management in Laryngeal Cancer by Dr. dr. I Gde Ardika Nuaba, Sp.THT-KL(K)

5. Current practice in fertility preservation in cancer patients by dr. I Gusti Ngurah Pramesemara, M.Biomed, Sp.And.

In the online session, moderated by Dr. Gede Wara Samsarga, Sp.B.P.R.E., Subsp.K.M.(K), FICS, there were 5 topics, namely:

1. Oncoplasty and Reconstruction in Oncologic Surgery by dr. Nina Irawati, Sp.B, Subsp.Onk (K)-KL

2. Laparoscopy Major Hepatectomy by Prof. dr. Baiju Senadhipan, MS, DNB, MCh

3. Robotic Surgery Role in Surgical Oncology by dr. Vikas Jain

4. Treatment of Metastatic Colorectal Cancer to the Liver by Prof. Iswanto Sucandy

5. Biportal spine surgery: A new horizon for Neurosurgeons by Aaron Tan Yew Chin

The Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Planning of FK Unud, Dr. dr. I Gede Eka Wiratnaya, Sp.OT (K) who attended and opened the symposium in his speech said that international seminars and symposia play a very important role in the development of surgical science and hopes that this meeting can increase the knowledge of doctors, lecturers, and researchers about the development of surgical science outside Indonesia.

After the seminar session, the event was closed by giving awards to the speakers and awards to the 3 best poster competition winners.
