FK UNUD Research Ethics Commission Hosts Annual General Meeting of Forum of Indonesian Recognized Research Ethics Committee (FIRREC)


FIRREC held an annual general meeting in 2023 with the main location point at the ethics commission secretariat of the Faculty of Medicine UNUD Jl. Lombok Island, Denpasar. The meeting was held for two days April 3-4 2023 in a hybrid manner which was attended by 17 Ethics Commission members of FIRREC.


The activity was opened by the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs and Planning of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University; Dr. dr. I Gede Eka Wiratnaya, Sp.OT(K) accompanied by the Head of the FK UNUD Ethics Commission; Prof. Dr. dr. I Gde Raka Widiana, Sp.PD-KGH


In his remarks, Dr. Eka said that the contribution of the ethics commission to Ethical Clearance for Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees cannot be separated in the implementation of the tridarma of higher education.


"With this event, it is hoped that the participants will get scientific updates in the field of ethics commissions throughout Indonesia which can be used to improve the ethics commission at the Faculty of Medicine of Unud so that they can provide the best in providing Ethical Clearance services to all researchers inside and outside the Faculty of Medicine of Unud," he said.


According to the Chairman of FIRREC; Prof. drg. Anton Rahardjo, MSc(PH), PhD., this annual general meeting will be filled with meetings to discuss the 2022 board's accountability, preparation of the 2023 work program and workshops related to research protocol studies by the ethics commission (executed, expedited and full board).


At this meeting, it was agreed that the 2023 work program and agreed guidelines in the study of research protocols that could be followed by FIRREC members. It is expected that FIRREC as an organization can carry out its role in protecting members and the Ethics Committee of FIRREC Members can provide better protocol review services.
