Improving Understanding and Competence in the Field of Holistic Mental Health, Department of Psychiatry FK Unud Organizes the 5th Bali Psychiatry Terkini
On August 8 to 9, 2024, the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University / Prof. Dr. I G.N.G Ngoerah Hospital held the 5th Bali Psychiatry Terkini at Prime Plaza Hotel, Sanur. This hybrid symposium event took the theme "Integrating Mental Health for a Holistic Wellness" which is expected to be a form of contribution to the development of mental health science, specifically in integrating the understanding of mental health into the concept of holistic well-being.
This activity presents various resource persons who are experts in their fields, both mental medicine specialists within Prof. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah Hospital, teaching staff from the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, and resource persons from outside Prof. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah Hospital. This event involved several divisions that represent many trends in the development of mental health in Indonesia today, including the community, social, and cultural divisions, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (CLP), Addiction, Geriatrics, Children and Adolescents, Neuropsychiatry, Forensics, and Spiritual Religion.
The event began with a Baris Dance performance performed by a team of dancers from the Student Arts Unit, Udayana University and continued with remarks from Dr. Lely Setyawati Kurniawan, dr., Sp.K.J., Subsp.F. (K) as chairman of the organizing committee, as well as remarks by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. Komang Januartha Putra Pinatih, M.Kes., who also officially opened the symposium. In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Udayana University said that people are now beginning to understand the involvement of mental and emotional well-being as an important thing in this challenging era. He also expressed great hope that this activity will not only be a place to share knowledge and experience, but also be the first step in building a society that is more concerned about mental health and is able to apply a holistic approach.
The first day of the symposium was divided into 3 main sessions: a session on adolescent children that explained the challenges and promotion of children's mental health outcomes, a session on Consultant Liason Psychiatry that emphasized a comprehensive approach in handling seizures with psychiatric problems, and a session on spiritual religion by looking at the perspective of spirituality in the era of globalization. In addition, there was also a Keynote Lecture delivered by the Chairman of IDI Denpasar, dr. I Ketut Widiyasa related to Medical Ethics, as well as a special session on Schizophrenia and optimization of innovative treatment.
After the end of the session, the first day activities then continued with a workshop on cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy in patients with anxiety disorders held in parallel with oral paper presentations and Udayana Awards.
On the second day, the symposium activities will continue with the presentation of 5 main sessions, in the form of cultural and community sessions that discuss resilience in improving community welfare, addiction sessions that study the challenges of behavioral addiction in the digital era and its handling, neuropsychiatric sessions that will discuss the impact of trauma on mental health, geriatric sessions that study loneliness in the elderly, and forensic sessions related to health law in psychiatric aspects. In addition, there will also be two other workshops to hone participants' skills related to the provision of therapy in mental health practice, namely the provision of ECT therapy with anesthesia and psychodynamic psychotherapy.
