The Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud) collaborated with Nacalai Tesque Inc. Japan to inaugurate the cell culture laboratory, located in the Dr. A.A. Made Djelantik Room, FK Unud Building, and the Integrated Biomedical Laboratory Unit (LBT) in the Cakra Vidya Usadha (CVU) Building, Denpasar. (10/13/2025)
The laboratory inauguration began with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. dr. I Gede Eka Wiratnaya, Sp.OT. Subs. Onk. Ort. R(K), and continued with remarks from the Vice Rector for General Affairs and Finance, Prof. Agoes Ganesha Rahyuda, SE., MT., Ph.D., who also opened the event.
In his remarks, Prof. Eka stated that the Faculty of Medicine will develop the Udayana Faculty of Medicine – Cell Engineering and Production Technology Laboratory in collaboration with Nacalai Tesque Inc. Japan. This is in line with Udayana University's transition to becoming a State University with Legal Entity Status (PTNBH). This will have greater autonomy in financial and resource management. He hopes this will become a revenue generator and add value to educational services, particularly at the Faculty of Medicine.
Prof. Eka also expressed his gratitude to the previous Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Komang Januartha Putra Pinatih, M.Kes., who, along with alumnus Dr. Putu Andhika, Ph.D., contributed to the development of cell therapy at Udayana University.
"We hope that going forward, we can work together to develop the strengths of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, and to benefit the world of education and research. Nacalai Tesque Inc., Japan, has requested two additional rooms to develop areas that cannot yet be developed at the Faculty. The equipment owned by Nacalai Tesque Inc., Japan, will be donated to the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University," said Prof. Eka.
"We also invite the Faculty of Medicine in Bali, in particular, to jointly utilize this Integrated Biomedical Laboratory, if needed, to develop cell therapy. Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah General Hospital can use it for specialist medical education," added Prof. Eka.
Meanwhile, Prof. Ganesha stated in his remarks that today marks an important milestone in Udayana University's journey: the inauguration of the Nacalai-Cell Engineering and Production Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University. This is the result of an extraordinary collaboration between Nacalai Tesque Inc. and the Faculty of Medicine. Japan and the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University. This laboratory symbolizes progress, innovation, and a spirit of collaboration that transcends national borders.
"This initiative is not just the establishment of a new research facility, but also a manifestation of our shared commitment to developing science, fostering innovation, and improving the quality of human health through cutting-edge technology and collaborative research. The synergy between the global expertise of Nacalai Tesque Inc. Japan and the academic excellence of the Faculty of Medicine will undoubtedly open new opportunities for scientific discovery and research capacity development," said Prof. Ganesha.
Following the opening ceremony, the event continued with presentations from Putu Andhika, Ph.D., and Dr. Gede Wara Samsarga, S.Ked., Sp.B.P.R.E., Subsp.K.M.(K) on ongoing research results at the Integrated Biomedical Laboratory (LBT). Following the presentation, the invited guests visited to see firsthand the facilities and infrastructure at the Integrated Biomedical Laboratory Unit (LBT) in the Cakra Vidya Usadha (CVU) Building, Denpasar.
This activity was also attended by the Head of the Integrated Laboratory Installation of Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G.
