Official Opening of the 5th International Conference on Cultural and Spiritual Psychiatry (ICOSPI) Joint Summit with Bali Psychiatry Terkini (BATIK) 7
The Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, held Psychiatry Terkini (BATIK) 7 with the theme "The Symphony of Healing: Integrating Mind, Body, and Culture through Multidisciplinary Psychiatry." This conference brought together academics, clinicians, researchers, and mental health practitioners from Indonesia and abroad to strengthen collaboration and knowledge exchange. The conference took place at the Prime Plaza Ballroom in Sanur, Bali. (Thursday, July 9, 2026)
The opening ceremony was attended by various stakeholders, including representatives from Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. General Hospital. Ngoerah, Manah Shanti Mahottama Hospital, Udayana University Hospital, Wangaya Regional Hospital, Mangusada Regional Hospital, Tabanan Class IIB Prison, Kerobokan Class IIA Prison, Abiansemal I Community Health Center, Tunas Daud Junior High School, the Denpasar and Bali Regional Branches of the Indonesian Medical Association, the Denpasar-Bali Branch of the Indonesian Psychiatric Association, and retired psychiatry lecturers. The presence of these stakeholders reflects a strong cross-sector commitment to advancing holistic and sustainable mental health.
The event began with remarks by the Chair of the Committee, Dr. I Gusti Ayu Indah Ardani, Sp.KJ., Subsp.A.R.(K), Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University; Prof. Dr. dr. I Gede Eka Wiratnaya, Sp.O.T., Subsp. Onk. Ort R (K); and the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Udayana University; Prof. Ir. I Nengah Sujaya, M.Agr.Sc., Ph.D.
In her remarks, Dr. Indah Ardani emphasized that the increasingly complex challenges of mental health require an integration of biological, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual approaches. She also expressed her hope that this conference would become a platform for sustainable international collaboration and the advancement of quality mental health services. According to the committee's report, this year's conference was attended by 347 symposium participants and 178 workshop participants, and featured 83 scientific presentations in various formats, from oral presentations to e-posters.
Meanwhile, Prof. Eka emphasized that BATIK and ICOSPI are not merely annual scientific events, but integral parts of the medical education process. According to her, this forum serves as a platform for lecturers, residents, students, and healthcare professionals to develop critical thinking skills, broaden global perspectives, and strengthen the culture of research and scientific publication.
Furthermore, Prof. Sujaya expressed his hope that this conference would become a catalyst for sustainable international academic partnerships through joint research, scientific publications, lecturer and student exchanges, and innovations in mental health services that provide tangible benefits to society.
Concluding the opening ceremony, the organizers reiterated the core message of this year's conference: "When mind, body, and culture are harmoniously integrated, mental health services not only heal but also enhance the quality of life for all people."
