Potency of Purple Sweet Potato Water Extract in the Management of Gouty Arthritis
Located in the Postgraduate Meeting Room Lt III, Denpasar Postgraduate Building, a Doctoral Promotion examination was held with promovendus candidate dr. I Wayan Subawa, Sp.OT(K), with the dissertation title "Aquatic Extract of Purple Sweet Potato (Ipomoea Batatas L) Causes Lower Levels of Interleukin 1-ß, Matrix Metalloprotenase-3, Cartilage Oligomeric Protein, Lower Malondialdehyde and Higher Number of Chondrocytes in Wistar Rats With Gouty Arthritis". (30/3/2023)
Until now treatment of gouty arthritis has focused on reducing uric acid levels and eliminating the clinical symptoms it causes. The development of herbal medicine which has been supported by regulations from the Ministry of Health has become an alternative in the management of gouty arthritis. One type of plant that has been researched and developed at Udayana University as an herbal product is purple sweet potato.
Purple sweet potato water extract is proven to contain high levels of anthocyanins. This study looked for levels of MMP-3, IL-1β, MDA, COMP and the number of chondrocytes given purple sweet potato water extract.
This study used 16 wistar rats which were divided into 2 groups, namely 8 samples given purple sweet potato water extract and the control group.
