Psychiatry Specialist Study Program Collaborates with CIRHSS Udayana University to Provide Education on Preventing and Maintaining Family Mental Health in Abang Karangasem Village


The Psychiatry Specialist Study Program of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University participated in supporting Research and Community Service activities which were a collaboration between The University of Sydney and the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on The Humanities and Social Sciences (CIRHSS) Udayana University.


This activity was held at the Abang Village Multipurpose Hall, Abang 1 Health Center Area, Karangasem Regency on January 24-25, 2025.


The main focus of this activity was education on the role of women in preventing and maintaining family mental health presented by Prof. Dr. Cokorda Bagus Jaya Lesmana, Sp. KJ (K), MARS. As well as the role of women in controlling the use of digital media to maintain family mental health presented by Cokorda Rai Adi Pramartha, ST, MMSI, Ph.D., (Co-Director of CIRHSS Unud and Head of the Local Research Team).


In addition, there are also physical and mental health screening services by PPDS students. FK UNUD Mental Medicine students.


The research activities were in-depth interviews with several female representatives to explore the community's needs for digital media support in seeking mental health care coordinated by the Local Project Manager: Dr. dr. Putu Aryani, MIH, Sp. KKLP. Sub. Sp. COPC, together with Research Collaborator Manoj A. Thomas from Sydney University and Sydney Project Manager Linh Khanh Chu.


This activity was also supported by volunteers from Suryani Institute for Mental Health (SIMH) and Staff of Puskesmas Abang 1.


The counseling and screening was attended by the women's community, especially PKK members and the elderly. In total there were about 140 participants who attended the counseling, meditation together and had their health checked.


The Head of Abang Sub-district and the Head of Abang Village are very supportive of this activity and hope to work together again in the future for disease prevention and public health checks in their area.
