Strengthening Global Networks: Udayana University Faculty of Medicine Welcomes Yale University School of Nursing Delegation

The Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University (FK Unud) welcomed an academic delegation from the Yale University School of Nursing (YSN), USA. The official meeting took place in the Dr. A.A. Made Djelantik Room at the FK Unud Sudirman Campus, Denpasar, on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

The event began with opening remarks from the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Planning at FK Unud, Prof. Dr. I Made Ady Wirawan, MPH, Ph.D. In his presentation on the faculty's profile, Prof. Ady highlighted FK Unud's strengths, noting that it currently manages 38 study programs ranging from undergraduate to doctoral levels.

Currently, FK Unud accommodates approximately 5,600 students, supported by 400 teaching staff under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, and 400 lecturers/clinicians under the Ministry of Health.

In addition to its main campus in Denpasar and the Jimbaran campus, FK Unud is supported by an extensive integrated healthcare service network, including its primary teaching hospital, Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital (RSUP), Udayana University Hospital, and the Udayana Dental and Oral Hospital. This is complemented by a network of eight partner regional hospitals in Bali and 17 affiliated hospitals across Central and Eastern Indonesia (including Papua, Maluku, Sulawesi, and Kalimantan) that serve as placement sites for residency and specialist training programs.

Prof. Ady also highlighted the role of FK Unud experts in the field of environmental health, whose work has produced various outstanding research projects. This partnership with Yale University complements the global collaborative networks Unud has already established with the University of Minnesota and Cornell University.

"We hope this meeting will lead to future initiatives such as faculty exchange programs, joint research, and opportunities for research funding," said Prof. Ady.

The visit by the Yale University delegation was led by Dr. Zhao Ni, PhD, BMed, RN, FAAN, FAHA (Assistant Professor and Director of International Academic Partnerships and Programs at the Yale Office of Global Affairs & Planetary Health), visited alongside a group of nursing students from the Yale University School of Nursing (YSN). This visit marked the first time Yale University nursing students have visited Bali and Udayana University.

Dr. Zhao Ni expressed Yale University's interest in learning from the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University (FK Unud) regarding their experience in managing a Planetary Health program rooted in local Balinese wisdom. Additionally, the visit aimed to identify opportunities for research grant funding and long-term academic publication collaborations.

The academic discussion session featured a presentation by Ni Made Utami Dwipayanti, S.T., M.BEnv., Ph.D., representing the FK Unud research team. She presented research findings on the impacts of climate change in Indonesia and outlined Planetary Health research projects currently being developed in Bali.

This strategic meeting was attended by the coordinators of the Master of Public Health, Bachelor of Public Health, Bachelor of Nursing, and Professional Nurse (Ners) study programs, as well as representatives from the FK Unud Information and Cooperation Management Unit (UPIKS).

The event concluded with an interactive discussion, an exchange of mementos, and a group photo. Through this initiative, FK Unud further strengthens its position as an internationally reputed center for health education and research in Eastern Indonesia.
