Successfully Hosting BARONG Update 2026, the ENT-HNS Department of FK Unud Prepares Top-Tier Medical Professionals for the Medical Tourism Era

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ENT-HNS) at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud), in collaboration with the Bali Chapter of PERHATI-KL, successfully organized the Bali Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Update (BARONG Update) 2026. This large-scale scientific event was held under the theme "Advancing ORL–HNS Excellence in the Era of Global Medical Tourism."

The event took place over two days, September 11–12, 2026, at the Cakra Vidya Usadha (CVU) Building and the Dr. A.A. Made Djelantik Meeting Room at the FK Unud Sudirman campus in Denpasar. It was officially opened by the Dean of FK Unud, Prof. Dr. dr. I Gede Eka Wiratnaya, Sp.OT(K). The agenda was specifically designed to enhance knowledge, clinical competence, and ethical understanding in addressing the challenges of ENT-HNS healthcare services within the era of global medical tourism.

The BARONG Update 2026 program was divided into several comprehensive sessions:

1. Day One: Medical Workshops and Resident (PPDS) Sharing Session (Friday, September 11, 2026)

• Workshop for ENT-HNS Specialists: Focused on temporal bone radiology interpretation, Minimally Invasive Otology Procedures (MIOP), and vestibular examinations using vHIT and Frenzel goggles, followed by hands-on practice of guided repositioning maneuvers.

• Workshop for General Practitioners and Nurses: Utilized a group rotation system across various practice stations for hands-on training in hearing screening, cerumen and foreign body extraction, and the management of BPPV. • ENT-HNS Residency (PPDS) Sharing Session: An interactive session introducing residency life, career prospects, and effective strategies for successfully passing the selection process for the ENT-HNS Specialist Training Program (PPDS).

2. Day Two: Scientific Seminar (Saturday, September 12, 2026). The seminar provides an in-depth exploration of essential topics regarding traveler mobility, such as global medical tourism trends, travel-related otological disorders (barotrauma and diving injuries), vestibular and sinus disorders in travelers, and "Fitness to Fly" assessments in ORL-HNS.

The event features a lineup of expert speakers and instructors in the field, including:
