The Cancer Awareness Student Community of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Provides Outreach and Free Health Check-ups to the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) of Sanur Village and SMPN 9 Denpasar
The semi-autonomous Cancer Awareness Student Community (Kompak) of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, through its Grebeg Desa Kompak 2026 work program, held an event themed "Empowering Villages, Inspiring Healthy Journeys: Cancer Awareness in Tourism Communities." This activity was held as a form of community service aimed at raising awareness about early cancer detection and providing support for survivors through a promotive and preventative approach. Grebeg Desa Kompak is an annual work program of the Kompak Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, which is routinely held as a student contribution to improving community health.
Grebeg Desa Kompak 2026 took place over two days. The first day, held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, in Banjar Buruwan, Sanur Kaja Village, Denpasar City, began with health outreach activities for the women's group of the PKK of Banjar Buruwan. The material presented covered skin cancer, presented by Dr. I Putu Ari Gunawan, M.Biomed., Sp.B(K)Onk, and cervical cancer, presented by Dr. Ni Gusti Ayu Agung Manik Yuniawaty Wetan, Sp.B., Subsp.Onk(K). In addition to health education, the community also received free health checks, including blood pressure and blood sugar checks. For this activity, the Faculty of Medicine (FK) of Udayana University collaborated with Prima Medika Hospital and the South Denpasar II Community Health Center (UPTD) to provide free Pap smears to raise public awareness of the importance of early cervical cancer detection.
The second day, held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at SMP Negeri 9 Denpasar, focused on health education activities for students through outreach on breast and lung cancer. This activity aimed to increase adolescent knowledge and awareness regarding risk factors, prevention, and the importance of early cancer detection from a young age. In addition to the outreach program, free health checks were also conducted for teachers, including blood pressure and blood sugar checks, as a form of concern for the health of educators and an effort to encourage early detection of non-communicable diseases.
Through the series of Grebeg Desa Kompak 2026 activities, it is hoped that the community and the younger generation will increasingly understand the importance of early cancer detection, adopt healthy lifestyles, and play an active role in cancer prevention efforts in their communities.
