The Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery Specialist Program at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Holds the 7th Continuing Medical Education (PKB): Current Updates in Plastic Surgery

The Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery Specialist Program at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, successfully held its 7th Continuing Medical Education (PKB) with the theme "Current Updates in Plastic Surgery" at The Trans Resort Seminyak, Bali, on February 21–22, 2026. This event is part of the institution's commitment to supporting the development of physician competency and improving the quality of healthcare services, particularly in the field of reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery. Dr. Gede Wara Samsarga, Sp.B.P.R.E., Subsp.K.M.(K), FICS, served as the Committee Chair.

The first day of the event was a symposium. The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. dr. I Gede Eka Wiratnaya, Sp.OT., Subsp.Onk.Ort.R(K). The event was also attended by the Head of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) Bali Region, Prof. Dr. dr. I Made Sudarmaja, M.Kes., a representative of the President Director of Prof. Ngoerah Hospital, Dr. Pande Ketut Kurniari, Sp.PD-KR, FINASIM., the Head of the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. dr. Putu Anda Tusta Adiputra, Sp.B., Subsp.Onk(K), and the Coordinator of the Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery Study Program, as well as the Head of the Bali-Nusra branch of PERAPI, Dr. dr. Agus Roy Rusly Hariantana Hamid, Sp.B.P.R.E., Subsp.T(K).

The symposium sessions covered a wide range of topics, from ethical aspects in plastic surgery practice to specialized topics within the field of plastic surgery, including the latest developments in hand surgery and microsurgery, updates in burn and chronic wound management, advances in craniomaxillofacial surgery, and the latest innovations in aesthetics. A variety of strategic topics were discussed, ranging from flap surgery techniques, lymphedema management, cleft lip and palate reconstruction, microtia reconstruction, to the latest trends in facial rejuvenation and body contouring. Each session concluded with a panel discussion that enriched participants' perspectives through a multidisciplinary approach.

The 7th PKB event was attended by 97 participants from across Indonesia. In addition to the scientific symposium, the event also included an e-poster competition, with a total of 48 participants. Of these, three oral presentation winners were selected.

The oral presentation winners were:

1. 1st Place: Jane Carissa Sutedja, with a poster titled "Beyond Cephalometrics: AI-Driven Identification of Orthognathic Surgery Candidates – A Diagnostic Accuracy Meta-Analysis"

2. 2nd Place: Dr. Felicia Puspita Sari with a poster titled "Ogawa Classification – Guided Surgical Reconstruction of Pediatric Axillary Contractures: A Comparative Case Report"

3. 3rd Place: Dr. Angela Djunaedi, with a poster titled "Multidisciplinary Management of Severe Clitoromegaly in Disorders of Sex Development: A Case Series on Diagnostic and Reconstructive Strategies"

On the second day, the event continued with an interactive workshop designed to enhance participants' practical skills. The workshop covered the management of various wound types, including necrotic wounds, abscesses, degloving injuries, and pressure injuries, as well as training in basic plastic surgery techniques such as facial wound suturing, eyelid wound management, and lip reconstruction. The workshop was led by experienced specialists and subspecialists in reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery.

Through this 7th PKB (Community Development Program), participants are expected to gain knowledge updates, improve clinical skills, and strengthen professional networks. This event also demonstrates the commitment of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, and Ngoerah Hospital to supporting the development of continuing medical education and improving the quality of reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery services in Indonesia.
