The Psychiatry Specialist Study Program at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, celebrated its 28th anniversary. This celebration served as a moment to reflect on the institution's long journey in producing psychiatrists and to strengthen its contributions to mental health services, education, and research in Indonesia. The event took place in the Meeting Room of Dr. I Gusti Putu Panteri, Sp.KJ(K) at Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital, Denpasar, on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
As part of academic development, the celebration also included the launch of the Udayana Integrative Psychiatry Journal (JPIU) and the Psychiatry Podcast, which are expected to serve as a platform for strengthening scientific culture and disseminating knowledge in the field of psychiatry.
In his remarks, the Coordinator of the Psychiatry Specialist Study Program at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. Cokorda Bagus Jaya Lesmana, dr., Sp.KJ(K), MARS, stated that the 28th anniversary marks an important milestone in the institution's journey. "For the past 28 years, the study program has contributed to producing psychiatrists who play a role in advancing mental health services in Indonesia, with 144 alumni spread from Sumatra to Papua, 67 active residents, and 22 active lecturers. This progress is inseparable from the dedication of the educators and the enthusiasm of the students in responding to the ever-evolving challenges of mental health," he said.
Prof. Cokorda also added that the launch of the scientific journal is a strategic step in expanding the study program's contribution, not only in service but also in the development of science. "We hope that in the future, this study program will play an increasingly active role in research and innovation in the field of psychiatry, so that it can have a broader impact on society," he added.
The celebration also included a series of activities, from remarks from the leadership, a video screening of the study program's history, the cutting of a tumpeng (rice cone) as a symbol of celebration, and performances by the residents. The atmosphere of togetherness was further enhanced by the friendly gathering, which provided a space for interaction among the entire academic community.
With the spirit of togetherness and diversity demonstrated at this celebration, the Psychiatry Specialist Study Program at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to develop as a center for superior mental health education and services, and to becoming part of the solution to mental health challenges in Indonesia.
The event was attended by lecturers, administrative staff, and residents. In addition to the anniversary celebration, the event also included the commemoration of Chinese New Year, Nyepi, and Eid al-Fitr, symbolizing unity in diversity.
