UNISERF Research Collaboration with Rice University

Udayana University Faculty of Medicine received a visit from Prof. Anthony K Brandt (Rice University) and Prof. Jose Luis Contreras-Vidal (University of Houston). This visit was received directly by the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs and Information, Prof. Dr. I Made Ady Wirawan, MPH., Ph.D., located in the Dean's Meeting Room, FK Unud Denpasar Building. Prof. Ady congratulated Prof. Anthony has received a UNISERF research grant from Udayana University where he will carry out research for 6 months in Bali. This research will collaborate with the Psychiatric Medicine Specialist Study Program with Dr. Dr. Cokorda Bagus Jaya Lesmana, Sp.KJ(K), MARS., as the host of the research.

The research topics carried out are related to Balinese culture, especially gamelan and Balinese dance, which are connected to neuroscience. At this meeting Prof. Jose Luis Contreras-Vidal from the NSF IUCRC BRAIN Center, University of Houston conveyed the connection between music and improving medical conditions in brain disorders, so it does not rule out the possibility of adopting Balinese culture as a therapy for brain disorders in humans.

Apart from research collaboration, in the future there will be an international conference related to culture and spirituality with the Psychiatric Medicine Specialist Study Program. In addition, from the Neurology Specialist Study Program, Dr. Dr. Eka Widyadarma, Sp.N (K) also delivered plans for a guest lecture related to Basic Science on Portable EEG.

On this occasion, I Gde Made Indra Sadguna, Ph.D., from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar, who was a research team in facilitating Balinese gamelan and dance, was also present. This meeting was also attended by UPIKS Coordinator Dr. Dr. Ida Ayu Ika Wahyuniari, S.Ked., M.Kes., Prof. Dr. Dr. Ketut Suastika, Sp.PD., KEMD., FINASIM., Udayana Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence Research Group, Coordinator of the Psychiatric Medicine Specialist Study Program, Dr. Dr. Luh Nyoman Alit Aryani, Sp.KJ(K), Coordinator of the Neurology Specialist Study Program, Dr. Dr. I Putu Eka Widyadharma, S.Ked., M.Sc., Sp.S(K) and Head of the Psychiatry Department, dr. Ni Ketut Putri Ariani, Sp.KJ(K).
