UNUD–UI Community Service Collaboration in Geriana Kauh Village, Karangasem: Health Services and Capacity Building in Geriana Kauh Village in Dedari Village Tourism Strategy Planning for Village Development as an Ecotourism Destination in Bali

UNUD–UI Community Service Collaboration in Geriana Kauh Village, Karangasem: Health Services and Capacity Building in Geriana Kauh Village in Dedari Village Tourism Strategy Planning for Village Development as an Ecotourism Destination in Bali

The Undergraduate Nursing Program and Nursing Professional Education at Udayana University (UNUD), in collaboration with the Directorate of Community Service and Social Innovation at the University of Indonesia (DPIS UI), conducted health services and health education for residents of the Geriana Kauh Traditional Village, Karangasem, on Sunday, November 22, 2025. Health checks were conducted by UNUD health workers and a UI team, including basic examinations, screenings, health education, and mentoring for the indigenous community.

The event was attended by the Coordinator of the Undergraduate Nursing Program and Nursing Professional Education, Dr. Ners. Ketut Guru Prapti, M.Ns., who in her remarks stated that the UNUD team's approach is always based on the needs of the community. She explained that activities in Geriana Kauh are carried out by listening to the community's voices.

"We want to ensure that the indigenous people who have long upheld their traditions are also protected and their health is taken care of," he said.

On this occasion, the Director of Community Service and Social Innovation at the University of Indonesia, Dr. L.G. Saraswati Putri, stated that this activity demonstrates UI's commitment to being fully present in the community. She emphasized that the health of residents and the strength of village culture support each other. According to her,

"Geriana Kauh shows us that caring for people and preserving culture are work that goes hand in hand," she said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Geriana Kauh Traditional Village, Nyoman Subratha, in his remarks, conveyed that the presence of UNUD and UI gives the village hope in preserving its heritage. He said that the museum is a place where residents preserve collective memory. "We are very grateful for this sincere attention to our village. Sanghyang Dedari is the soul of our village, and this museum is a place where we preserve our memories. The support of UNUD and UI makes us stronger," he said.

In addition to healthcare services, this activity also involved strengthening the community museum in Geriana Kauh, which has served as a repository of ancestral knowledge, including the history and meaning of Sanghyang Dedari. This strengthening effort was carried out by a support team from the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FIB UI), led by Dr. Ali Akbar, an archaeologist who has also worked to empower community museums in Bali.

Through this collaboration, UNUD, UI, and the Geriana Kauh Traditional Village are strengthening the community health network while preserving the local knowledge that underpins the village's identity. Hopefully, this collaboration will continue.
