Workshop by the Master of Biomedical Sciences Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, on the Theme "Strengthening Downstream Pharmacology of Natural Ingredients from Research to Industry in Efforts to Prevent Premature Aging"

The Master of Biomedical Sciences Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, held a workshop on the theme "Strengthening Downstream Pharmacology of Natural Ingredients from Research to Industry in Efforts to Prevent Premature Aging" in the Prof. Tjokorda Rai Room, 2nd Floor of the Cakra Vidya Usadha (CVU) Building, Udayana University Campus, Denpasar. The workshop took place on Saturday and Sunday, April 18–19, 2026.

The event was chaired by Dr. dr. Ida Ayu Dewi Wiryanthini., S.Ked., M.Biomed and attended by the Vice Dean for General Affairs and Finance, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. dr. I Made Muliarta, S.Ked., M.Kes., as a form of support for strengthening practitioner-based learning and achieving industry-based learning outcomes. The event was officially opened by the Coordinator of the Master of Biomedical Sciences Study Program, Dr. I Gusti Made Gde Surya Chandra Trapika, M.Sc., Ph.D., who in his remarks emphasized the importance of strengthening the implementation aspects of learning, particularly in bridging the gap between academic research and industry needs. He also highlighted the urgency of bringing in practitioners as part of the learning strategy to improve graduates' readiness for the workforce.

The first day of the event focused on strengthening understanding regarding the downstreaming of natural ingredients into cosmetic products. The event featured Dr. Maulana Setiawan, M.Biomed, as the keynote speaker, who has successfully implemented his research into high-quality products on the market. The event was also supported by PT. Derma Beauty Indonesia (DBI), represented on this occasion by Mr. Ade Chandra. In his presentation, Dr. Maulana Setiawan, M.Biomed, comprehensively explained the downstreaming process of natural ingredients, from raw material exploration, formulation, stability testing, and commercialization strategies to create competitive cosmetic products. This explanation provided students with practical insights into how research findings can be developed into high-value products. PT Derma Beauty Indonesia (DBI) explained the technical regulations in the product manufacturing process and the importance of product identity/naming for registration. PT. DBI is ready to support efforts to downstream research results into highly competitive industrial products.

On the second day, activities focused on strengthening the translation of research into herbal-based health products and industrial practices in natural ingredient pharmacology. The workshop featured Dr. Theresia Handayani, M.Biomed, as the keynote speaker, a clinician experienced in anti-aging. The event was supported by RohTo Laboratories Indonesia, which promotes Dermacept. The event was attended by Product & Brand Manager Ms. Istia Rahmawati, part of a collaboration between academia and industry. The topic "Trends in Anti-Aging Facial Treatments," presented by Dr. Theresia Handayani, M.Biomed, discussed the latest developments in anti-aging products. The discussion was interactive, with students actively participating in the Q&A session led by the MC. The entire workshop was led by MC Dr. Ari Bello Vandino, S.Ked, and interactive discussion sessions that allowed students to delve deeper into opportunities for research and industry collaboration.

This workshop is a strategic part of the implementation of practice-based learning oriented towards improving student competencies through practical applications. The presence of industry partners such as PT. Derma Beauty Indonesia (DBI) and RohTo Laboratories Indonesia significantly enriches students' perspectives, particularly in understanding the downstream flow of natural ingredient-based products from the laboratory to becoming competitive products in the industrial market.

With this event, it is hoped that Udayana University Master of Biomedical Sciences students will have stronger research translation competencies and be able to play an active role in the development of innovative products in the field of natural ingredient pharmacology, both nationally and globally, as a downstream effort to translate the research they have conducted during their studies.
