Coordination Unit for Professional Education Implementation (KP3) of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Holds Emergency Clinical Skills Training for PPDS-1 & PPDS-2 Students for Even Semester 2025
All 195 New Students of the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) 1 and PPDS 2 participated in the Emergency Clinical Skills training organized by the Coordination Unit for Professional Education Implementation (KP3) of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK UNUD) for 3 days from 25, 26 and 27 February 2025 at the FK UNUD Campus, Denpasar.
On the first day, the activity began with a preliminary evaluation (pre-test) to determine the initial understanding of new students regarding the concept and skills of emergency clinics and continued with the provision of material by the facilitator lecturer. The material presented using lecture and discussion methods includes; Airway Management and Ventilation Support, Respiratory & Hemodynamic Monitoring, Hypovolemic Shock Management, Septic Shock, Vascular Access Emergency, Anaphylactic Shock Management and Steven Johnson Syndrome, Cardiogenic Shock Management/Cardiac Arrest Life Threating, Decreased Consciousness and Determination of Brain Death, Emergencies in Metabolic/Endocrine Disorders (Diabetes Mellitus), Emergencies in Children's Diseases, Emergencies in Cases, Acute Kidney Injury, Emergencies in Malignancy Cases and Final Procedures, Blood Transfusion and Components in Patients with Acute and Chronic Bleeding, The Role of Endoscopy in Patients with Acute Gastrointestinal Bleeding, Pain Management, as well as topics on Transportation and Evacuation in Mass Disasters and Optimization or Stabilization of Pre-Surgery Patients.
Furthermore, on the 2nd day, clinical skills practice was carried out in the Cakra Vidya Usada (CVU) skill lab building. Participants are divided into 6 groups and each group will go through 6 action stations. Each station is guided by a tutor and several facilitators (chief residents) and uses appropriate manikins/props to discuss and practice emergency skills. These skills include: airway management skills, ventilation support and O2 therapy management skills, diagnostic skills, cardiopulmocerebral resuscitation skills, vascular access skills, and stabilization and evacuation skills. All participants have the opportunity to practice all of these skills and discuss actively with the facilitator.
At the end of the training, a summative evaluation was carried out in the form of a post-test and a qualitative evaluation of the implementation of the training. The results of the post-test showed an increase in mastery of the material and emergency skills as seen from the increase in the average post-test score (the average pre-test score was 72.9 to 89.6 during the post-test). From the results of the process evaluation, most participants (> 73%) felt very satisfied and benefited from this training, the skills of which can later be used during the PPDS education at FK UNUD. Evaluation of the organizers obtained Most participants (>71%) participants were very satisfied with the facilities and facilities provided by the committee. Students also provided suggestions on things that needed to be improved such as longer practice time and increasing the number of manikins.
At the closing, the Head of the Professional Education Implementation Coordination Unit, Dr.dr. Dyah Kanya Wati Sp.A (K) announced and congratulated that all participants who took part in the training had passed. Participants will receive a training certificate that can be used as one of the requirements to take PPDS Education at IGNG Ngoerah Hospital and Jejaring Hospital. In addition, the head of KP3 also advised students to continue to improve their learning abilities and discipline during their education and to prepare prerequisite documents for taking education such as STR and STR-P.
