Located in the Postgraduate Hall, 3rd Floor of the Postgraduate Building, Udayana University, the Doctor of Medical Sciences Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University held an open Doctoral Promotion examination with the candidate for promovenda, Ns. Ni Komang Matalia Gandari, S.Kep, M.H., M.Kep, with the dissertation title "Development of a Standard Model for Tourism Health Nursing". (5/3/2025)

Global tourism has undergone a significant transformation in recent decades, with the number of international tourists reaching 1.5 billion in 2019. Global surveillance data shows that 50-75% of tourists experience health problems during their travels. In Bali, as a major tourist destination that receives more than 6 million foreign tourists, only 35% of nurses have adequate competence in tourism health services, indicating the urgency of developing special competency standards.

This study aims to develop a standard model for tourism health nursing that is tailored to the needs of nurses. This study used an explanatory sequential mixed methods approach with three stages. The first stage was a quantitative study by conducting a survey of 355 nurses to analyze knowledge, attitudes, skills and ethics about tourism health nursing. The second stage was a qualitative study through in-depth interviews with 15 informants to explore perceptions about tourism health nursing. The third stage was model validation using the Delphi method to evaluate the feasibility of the standards developed.

The results of the study identified five aspects of fundamental competency in tourism health nursing standards, namely language and communication competency; cultural and transcultural understanding; clinical and professional skills; service attitudes and ethics; and patient safety. The feasibility evaluation through the Delphi test showed a significant increase in consensus from the first round (91.43%-95.43%) to the second round (96.57%-100%), with a 100% consensus achievement on patient safety standards.

The model for increasing the capacity of nurses in tourism health nursing that was developed was proven to be feasible and can be implemented. This model includes eight comprehensive and applicable main standards, providing a systematic framework for improving the quality of tourism health services in Indonesia.
