Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry is one of the departments at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud). In the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, the Department of Biochemistry is supported by 8 lecturers (5 doctors and 3 masters), 1 educational laboratory staff, and 1 educational staff with the Head of the Department currently held by Dr.dr. Desak Made Wihandani, M.Kes. The staff of the Department of Biochemistry is involved in the field of education and teaching in undergraduate study programs (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Dentistry, Bachelor of Physiotherapy and Bachelor of Nursing), professional study programs (PPDS), Masters and Doctorates. In addition, staff of the Department of Biochemistry also teach outside Udayana University such as Stikes Bali, Stikes Wiramedika, Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Pharmacy of Mahasaraswati University Denpasar, and FK Al-Azhar Islamic University Mataram. The Department of Biochemistry has 3 Scientific Groups namely Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Metabolism and Nutrition with a research focus on antioxidants, nutrition, aging related-diseases (degenerative diseases, cancer and metabolic diseases). Dissemination of research results is carried out annually and research development efforts are carried out in collaboration with domestic and / or foreign institutions. To support the implementation of lecturer and student research, there are several examinations that can be carried out in the Biochemistry Laboratory including DNA isolation, PCR, Protein Isolation, ELISA, Western Blotting, and spectrophotometry. Community service activities in the form of health counseling, health services or fostered villages are carried out annually every year
