Accelerating Academic Quality: Undergraduate Dentistry Program at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Refines an OBE-Based Curriculum
In an effort to elevate educational quality standards and boost the global competitiveness of its graduates, the Undergraduate Dentistry and Dental Profession Study Program (PSSKGPDG) at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud), held a curriculum workshop. The event took place on Friday, October 23, 2026, at the Prof. Dr. I Goesti Ngoerah Gde Ngoerah Meeting Room, located on the fourth floor of the FK Unud building at the Sudirman Campus, Denpasar.
The workshop focused specifically on refining three core academic pillars: Graduate Learning Outcomes (GLOs), Semester Learning Plans (SLPs), and assessment systems. This initiative ensures that the institutional curriculum remains adaptive to the evolving needs of society, the rapid advancement of scientific knowledge, and the projected demands of the dental professional landscape. This internal evaluation was carefully structured, incorporating comprehensive feedback from current students to strengthen both the substance of the course material and the effectiveness of teaching methods—in both classroom and clinical settings.
The event was opened by the Vice Dean for Planning, Resources, and Partnerships at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. dr. I Made Muliarta, S.Ked., M.Kes. In his remarks, Prof. Muliarta emphasized that the alignment of Graduate Learning Outcomes (GLOs) with the new assessment system plays a critical role for aspiring medical practitioners.
"Refining these academic instruments is not merely about meeting educational regulatory requirements; it is about equipping future dentists with a holistic understanding of healthcare system management, occupational safety regulations (doctor safety), and an awareness of public policy within the health sector," stated Prof. Dr. dr. I Made Muliarta, S.Ked., M.Kes. This intensive workshop featured two expert speakers:
1. dr. I G. A. Harry Sundariyati, S.Ked., MHPE. – Presented on refining the formulation of Graduate Learning Outcomes (GLOs) and synchronizing Semester Learning Plans (SLPs).
2. dr. I.B. Amerta Putra Manuaba, M.Biomed., Ph.D. – Presented on the standardization and updating of an integrated assessment system.
The workshop focused on establishing an integrated assessment method based on the principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE). This internal update serves as a foundational step and a vital prerequisite for the study program as it prepares for an external evaluation—involving alumni, the Indonesian Dental Association (PDGI), and relevant government agencies—scheduled to take place in 2027.
The event was coordinated by the Head of the Undergraduate Dentistry Study Program at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud), drg. I Gusti Agung Dyah Ambarawati, M.Biomed., and was attended by the entire faculty teaching staff. The proceedings concluded with an interactive discussion session, the drafting of the curriculum, and a group photograph.
