Basic Emergency Management Course (BEMC) 2026
The Janar Dūta Medical Assistance Team (TBM) of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, once again held its annual Basic Emergency Management Course (BEMC) 2026. The event took place in the N.A. Bagiada Meeting Room and the Ketut Suata Room I of the Cakra Vidya Usadha Building, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Denpasar, on April 18, 2026. This event was part of the effort to foster and develop the competencies of Junior Members (AM) XXXV in the field of medical emergencies, as well as to demonstrate their readiness to carry out their duties as medical assistance teams in various activities.
BEMC 2026 carried the theme "Empowering the Next Generation of First Responders," reflecting TBM Janar Dūta's commitment to developing a generation of young medical personnel who are alert, skilled, and competent in dealing with emergency situations.
This event was motivated by the importance of TBM members' preparedness in handling emergency cases, both in their daily lives and while on duty in the field. As a team frequently involved in medical care during various external activities, members are required to possess the ability to recognize symptoms, determine initial action, and provide appropriate medical treatment quickly and accurately.
Through BEMC, participants receive comprehensive training encompassing both theory and practice in basic medical skills. The material covered medical care case management, medication use, and various clinical procedures such as wound suturing, intubation, catheter placement, infusions, injections, intravenous access, and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
The 2026 BEMC series of activities was held over three days using a blended (offline and online) method. The first day was conducted in person, focusing on basic material and initial practice in emergency case management. The second day was conducted online, with advanced material related to clinical procedures. The third day was again conducted offline, with the main agenda being a case simulation to apply all the material learned previously.
This activity featured three speakers:
1. Dr. Ni Wayan Evita Pradnya Dharmesti, S.Ked, presented on on-call cases, on-call medications, and medical bag regulations.
2. Dr. Ayu Merta Sari, S.Ked, presented on fluid resuscitation, AEDs, and IV lines.
3. Dr. Velisia Putri Natalie, S.Ked, M.H. presented on urinary catheters, injections, and hecting.
Participants in this activity were Junior Members (AM) XXXV of the Janar Dūta Community Health Center. This activity also included evaluation and follow-up sessions to ensure that participants' understanding and skills had met the established standards. The Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, in collaboration with the Denpasar Bali Branch of the PDSKJI, held a workshop on type II diabetes mellitus patient care in primary care using a family medicine approach. This workshop took place in the Prof. Dr. I Gusti Ngoerah Gde Ngoerah Meeting Room, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University. The workshop was attended by 20 Specialist (Sp.KKLP) physicians from across Bali (in-person) and 20 participants from outside Bali (online). (April 18, 2026)
The workshop's objectives were to improve competency and skills in the care of Type II DM patients, particularly in insulin therapy with increasingly advanced technology, monitoring nutritional status and practical diet management, recognizing and diagnosing anxiety and depression disorders associated with long-term care, and providing counseling to patients and their families to improve therapy success.
The workshop was opened by the Vice Dean for General Affairs and Finance, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. dr. I Made Muliarta, S.Ked., M.Kes., who in his remarks emphasized the crucial role of Specialist (Sp.KKLP) physicians in primary care, improving therapy adherence, providing post-hospital referral care, educating patients about lifestyle changes, recognizing mental disorders associated with long-term therapy, and utilizing yoga for light physical activity. Furthermore, collaborative care, including family counseling and empowering other healthcare professionals at community health centers, can improve therapy outcomes and reduce patient complications.
Following the opening, the event continued with presentations by four experts in their respective fields:
1. Dr. I Made Siswadi Semadi, M.Biomed., Sp.PD-KEMD., FINASIM, with a presentation on therapy monitoring, blood sugar stability, and foot care for type II diabetes patients in primary care.
2. Dr. I Wayan Gede Sutadarma, M.Gizi., Sp.GK., Subsp.KM., with a presentation on monitoring blood sugar status.
