CIMSA FK Unud Hosts Incoming Research Exchange Students

The Center for Indonesian Medical Students’ Activities (CIMSA) at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud), has further expanded its international network by hosting six international students from various countries for a research exchange program at the faculty. The program was conducted over two periods—August 1–31, 2026, and September 1–30, 2026—across several departments within FK Unud.

The six students had the opportunity to engage directly in research activities aligned with their specific research topics and fields of study. The students participating in the program were:

August 2026 Period

1. Lea Huber (University of Basel, Switzerland) conducted research in the Department of Pharmacology on the topic: "Optimum Formula of Nanotechnology Facial Serum Combination of *Moringa oleifera* Extract and *Centella asiatica* Leaf Extract Increases Skin Collagen of Male Wistar Rats Exposed to Ultraviolet B Light," under the supervision of dr. Agung Wiwiek Indrayani, S.Ked., M.Kes., Ph.D.

2. Oliwia Przybylska (Medical University of Warsaw, Poland) conducted research in the Department of Pharmacology on the topic: "Optimum Formula of Nanotechnology Facial Serum Combination of *Moringa oleifera* Extract and *Centella asiatica* Leaf Extract Increases Skin Collagen of Male Wistar Rats Exposed to Ultraviolet B Light," under the supervision of dr. Agung Wiwiek Indrayani, S.Ked., M.Kes., Ph.D.

3. Aleksandra Pyda (Medical University of Warsaw, Poland) conducted research in the Department of Pharmacology on the topic: "Optimum Formula of Nanotechnology Facial Serum Combination of *Moringa oleifera* Extract and *Centella asiatica* Leaf Extract Increases Skin Collagen of Male Wistar Rats Exposed to Ultraviolet B Light," under the supervision of dr. Agung Wiwiek Indrayani, S.Ked., M.Kes., Ph.D. September 2026 Period

1. Dounia Bouraidah (KU Leuven, Belgium) conducted research at the Department of Biochemistry on the topic “Analysis of the Relationship between Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms of the Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) Fok1 (rs2228570) and Taq1 (rs731236) Genes on Vitamin D Levels in Obese Subjects in Bali” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. dr. Desak Made Wihandani, M.Kes.

2. Laura Eleonora Biondi (University of Medicine and Surgery of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy) conducted research at the Department of Parasitology on the topic “Molecular Genotyping of Taenia spp. in Bali Using the Mitochondrial COX1 (Cytochrome Oxidase I) Gene Marker” under the supervision of Dr. dr. I Kadek Swastika, S.Ked., M.Kes.

3. Ana Cristina Balan (Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Romania) conducted research at the Department of Public Health on the topic “Implementing Enhanced Syndromic Surveillance for Climate-Sensitive Acute Febrile Illnesses with Outbreak Potential in Primary Care Settings in Bali Province, Indonesia” under the supervision of Dr. dr. Anak Agung Sagung Sawitri, MPH.

This program is part of CIMSA Unud’s efforts to foster cross-border academic collaboration. Through direct involvement in research, participants have the opportunity to develop research skills and broaden their scientific horizons. Diverse national backgrounds enrich the exchange experience by introducing varied perspectives and academic cultures. Interactions with the Udayana University academic community also support the development of communication and teamwork skills within an international environment.

Through this research student exchange program, CIMSA FK Unud hopes to continue providing opportunities for meaningful academic and scientific experiences, while simultaneously expanding international networks and showcasing the educational and research potential of FK Unud on a global scale.
