Deliver Ni Made Parwati For A Doctoral Degree Using A Communication Motivation Model To Improve The Success Of Treatment Of Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients
Friday, February 4, 2022
A Doctoral Promotion with promovenda candidate Ni Made Parwati, SKM., M.Kes with the dissertation title "Model of Motivational Communication Motivational Interviewing Based on a Health Belief Model Improves Medicine Compliance and Treatment Success for Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients in Bali Province" was held in the Prof. dr. I Goesti Ngoerah Gde Ngoerah's venue. Tuberculosis is a major public health issue that affects people all around the world. In the treatment of tuberculosis, medication adherence is critical to the efficacy of the treatment.
Traditional motivation has not proven to be effective in improving long-term medication adherence. The Health Belief Models (HBM)-based Motivational Interviewing (MI) communication motivation model is aimed to promote medication adherence and treatment success.
The findings of this study show that HBM-based MI employing internet media and knowledge are the most important factors influencing medication adherence and treatment success, with each value having a different impact. ARR=4,51,95 percent CI: 1,302-15,660, p0.05; ARR=3.81.95 percent CI:1.078-13.498, p0.05. With ARR=2,93.95 percent CI: 1.042-8.254, p0.05 and ARR=3.49, 95 percent CI: 1.193 -10.223, p0.05, knowledge affects boosting drug adherence and treatment success. Non-adherence to medication and treatment failure is caused by an inability to handle the drug's side effects, leading to the notion that pharmaceuticals induce new diseases and interfere with everyday activities. The HBM-based MI communication motivation model creates a patient-centered relationship, strengthens long-term self-efficacy by overcoming treatment barriers originating from the HBM construct, and effectively improves medication adherence and treatment success. It is important to explore side effects drugs to overcome negative treatment perceptions in the application of this model.
The creation of a communication motivation model with the integration of two approaches, from the MI method and the HBM theory, in strengthening intrinsic motivation, growing long-term self-efficacy, and increasing medication adherence and successful treatment of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis is the development of new knowledge (novelty) from this research.
The findings of this study suggest that the HBM-based MI communication motivation model used in counseling by health workers at the puskesmas can be used as a guide in intervention, complementing traditional motivational weaknesses and contributing to increasing the success rate for pulmonary TB treatment in pulmonary TB control and prevention programs. Officers using HBM-based MI recognize that the demands of each pulmonary TB patient differ at each step of behavior modification, allowing them to provide motivation that is relevant and successful later.
