FK Unud Hosts Benchmarking Visit from FKG Unpad’s Oral Medicine Specialist Program

The Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University (FK Unud) officially hosted a benchmarking visit from the Oral Medicine Specialist Program (PPDGS) of the Faculty of Dentistry at Padjadjaran University (FKG Unpad). This strategic meeting took place at the Prof. Dr. I Goesti Ngoerah Gde Ngoerah Meeting Room, located on the 4th floor of the FK Unud building at the Sudirman Campus, Denpasar, on Friday, September 25, 2026.

This visit served as a follow-up to a collaboration request submitted by FKG Unpad to facilitate the exchange of strategic information regarding curriculum governance, student competency achievement, and the formulation of strategies to ensure timely graduation.

The event began with opening remarks from the Coordinator of the Undergraduate Dentistry Study Program (PSSKG) at FK Unud, drg. I Gusti Agung Dyah Ambarawati, M.Biomed, followed by the Head of the Oral Medicine Specialist Program at FKG Unpad, Dr. Nanan Nur'aeny, drg., Sp.P.M., Subsp.Noninf., and the Head of the Oral Medicine Department at FKG Unpad, Prof. Dr. Irna Sufiawati, drg., Sp.P.M., Subsp.Inf.Im.

The event was officially opened by the Dean of FK Unud, Prof. Dr. dr. I Gede Eka Wiratnaya, Sp.OT., Subsp.Onk.Ort.R(K). In his remarks, Prof. Eka stated that FK Unud continues to strengthen its flagship programs through the implementation of Interprofessional Education (IPE) and the reorientation of its excellence program toward Travel Health. Currently, the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University (FK Unud) is undergoing a significant transition as it prepares to establish a Faculty of Dentistry and Oral Medicine and designs new specialist and postgraduate study programs.

"We continue to prioritize cross-disciplinary research and service collaborations involving students from fields such as Medicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Pharmacy, and Mathematics & Natural Sciences. Under the guidance of the IPE coordinator, these interdisciplinary teams are deployed directly—taking a holistic approach—to partner villages to map public health issues and implement promotive and preventive measures, such as addressing dental caries," stated Prof. Eka.

Following the screening of videos profiling the faculty and study programs, the two parties proceeded with an in-depth discussion regarding the curriculum for managing oral diseases and a presentation on the capabilities of FK Unud’s Integrated Biomedical Laboratory. The meeting also served as a key opportunity to explore prospects for further studies (master’s and doctoral levels) for the FK Unud academic community within the specialist programs at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Padjadjaran (FKG Unpad).

After lunch, the delegation traveled to the Bukit Jimbaran Campus for a site visit. Participants toured the FK Unud building at the Jimbaran Campus and inspected the clinical education facilities at the Udayana University Dental and Oral Hospital (RSGM). Through this benchmarking visit, FK Unud hopes to expand its inter-institutional partnership network and pave the way for sustainable academic and transdisciplinary research collaborations in the future.
