Global Collaboration for Mental Health in the Digital Era


The international conference entitled "4th International Conference on Cultural & Spiritual Psychiatry (ICOSPI) join summit with Bali Psychiatry Terkini 6 (BATIK 6) was officially held at the Bali Sunset Road Convention Center, Denpasar. (19/06/2025)


This activity was organized by the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, with the main theme "Navigating Mental Health in The Age of Digital Connectivity" which was held for three days from 19 to 21 June 2025. This activity is a space for multidisciplinary collaboration to answer the challenges of mental health in the era of increasingly complex digital connectivity.


The Opening Ceremony today was also attended by the President Director of Prof. Ngoerah Hospital who was represented by the Director of HR, Education, and Research, Representative of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) for the Bali Region, Chair of the Denpasar Branch of IDI, Representative of PDSKJI (Indonesian Psychiatric Specialist Doctors Association) for the Bali Region and Denpasar Branch, as well as a number of Professors of the Medical Study Program Psychiatry Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University.


This activity was also attended by the Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Coordinator of the Psychiatry Specialist Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, and teaching staff of the Psychiatry Specialist Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University.


The activity began with a report from the chairman of the committee, Dr. dr. Ida Aju Kusuma Wardani, Sp.KJ, Subsp.KL.(K), MARS. In her report, it was stated that this activity was attended by 193 participants from national and international backgrounds, consisting of: 90 specialists and 103 other participants, including general practitioners, residents, other health workers and cultural psychiatry enthusiasts from various institutions. The material was provided by 30 expert speakers, both national and international.


This conference was officially opened by the Rector of Udayana University, Prof. Ir. I Ketut Sudarsana, S.T., Ph.D., in his remarks, highlighted the importance of integrating psychiatry with culture, spirituality, and technology as a future approach in mental health services.


“We live in an era of incredibly fast digital connectivity. On the one hand, it brings convenience, but also poses new challenges for mental health. A forum like this is important as a space for reflective and transformative dialogue across countries and disciplines,” he said.


Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. dr. Komang Januartha Putra Pinatih, M.Kes, emphasized that a cross-cultural and spiritual approach is crucial in addressing current mental health issues.


“Mental health grows from the roots of community values, culture, and beliefs. This conference strengthens the spirit of global collaboration and encourages more contextual and holistic research.”


One of the important moments in this activity was the inauguration of Prof. Raju Lakshmana from the University of Melbourne as a Visiting Professor at Udayana University. Prof. Raju is known as a strategic partner in the development of psychiatry through scientific symposiums, guest lectures, and collaboration between institutions. His presence is expected to strengthen postgraduate education, expand international research collaboration, and enrich global perspectives in the development of community-based mental health services.


The ICOSPI 4–BATIK 6 activity in 2025 emphasized that mental health challenges in the digital era cannot be handled sectorally. Synergy across countries, professions, and cultural values ​​is needed to create a stronger, contextual, and humane mental health system.


With this spirit of collaboration, all participants and stakeholders agreed to continue to move together to improve the quality of mental health services in Indonesia and the world amidst the challenges of an increasingly dynamic and digital era
