National Seminar: Comprehensive Approach to Metabolic Syndrome: From Nature, Evidence-Based Medicine to Clinical Practice
The Doctoral Program in Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, held the 2025 National Seminar with the theme "Comprehensive Approach to Metabolic Syndrome: From Nature, Evidence-Based Medicine to Clinical Practice." The seminar took place in the Dr. A.A. Made Djelantik Meeting Room, Fourth Floor, Faculty of Medicine Building, Denpasar. (12/12/2025)
Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of medical conditions that occur simultaneously, including increased blood pressure, high blood sugar levels, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels. These conditions significantly increase a person's risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.
Along with changes in modern lifestyles that tend toward less physical activity and unbalanced diets, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome continues to increase, both in developed and developing countries, including Indonesia. Data from various studies shows that metabolic syndrome is no longer limited to the elderly, but is also beginning to be found in productive age groups and even adolescents.
This national seminar featured three speakers in the first session:
1. Dr. Wayan Citra Wulan Sucipta Putri, S.Ked., MPH., with a presentation on "Metabolic Syndrome as an Epidemic and Economic Burden"
2. Dr. Theressia Handayani, M.Biomed., with a presentation on "Metabolic Syndrome from an Aging and Aesthetic Perspective"
3. Dr. I Made Siswadi Semadi, M.Biomed., Sp.PD-KEMD., FINASIM., with a presentation on "Update on Pathophysiology, Diagnosis, and Management of Metabolic Syndrome (Endocrine)"
Moderated by Dr. Iswahyudi, SpAN-TI., M.HKes
The second session continued with three speakers:
1. Prof. Dr. dr. I Made Jawi, M.Kes., with a presentation on "The Role of Natural Materials in the Management of Metabolic Syndrome: Focus on Purple Sweet Potatoes." 2. Putu Ayu Sita Saraswati, S.Ft., M.Fis., with the topic "The Role of Exercise in the Management of Metabolic Syndrome" (Exercise Physiology).
3. Dr. I Wayan Gede Sutadarma, Sp.GK., with the topic "Dietary Management of Metabolic Syndrome" (Clinical Nutrition).
Moderated by Dr. I Gede Wahyu Adi Raditya, Sp.T.H.T.-K.L.
The national seminar began with remarks from the Coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Biomedical Sciences, Prof. Dr. dr. I Made Jawi, M.Kes., followed by remarks from the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Planning, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. I Made Ady Wirawan, MPH., Ph.D., who in his remarks conveyed the high level of enthusiasm shown by the number of participants attending and participating in the seminar/event, demonstrating the strong interest of the academic community.
