National Seminar on the Challenges of Emerging Infectious Diseases Amidst Global Mobility.
The Master of Public Health Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, held a national seminar on the challenges of emerging infectious diseases amidst global mobility. The seminar, titled "Preparedness for Emerging Infections in the Era of Global Mobility: Synergy Between Health, Tourism, and Epidemiology," was held in a hybrid format, with the main venue being the Postgraduate Building, ground floor, room G.13, on Friday, October 10, 2025.
The event began with remarks from the Vice Dean for General Affairs and Finance, Dr. dr. I Made Muliarta, S.Ked, M.Kes., who emphasized the urgency of cross-sector collaboration.
"Public health, especially in tourist destinations like Bali, cannot stand alone. Synergy between health, tourism, and epidemiology is our primary defense," said Dr. Muliarta.
Following the opening, the event continued with an engaging session featuring 15 scientific posters from researchers and academics. Participants were given the opportunity to act as judges by viewing the innovative works firsthand and selecting the best posters while filling out the attendance list.
This National Seminar featured two leading experts focused on strengthening Bali's health defenses:
1. Dr. Anak Agung Ngurah Kusumaja, SP., MPH. (Head of the Denpasar Health Quarantine Center) presented vital strategies in "Strengthening Health Systems and Early Warning Against Emerging Infections in Tourist Areas in the Era of Global Mobility." His presentation highlighted the crucial role of prevention at entry points.
2. Dr. Kadek Iwan Darmawan, MPH (Head of Health Services at the Bali Provincial Health Office) discussed practical steps in "Strengthening Health Services in Tourist Areas in Facing the Threat of Emerging Infections," ensuring health facilities are ready to serve both tourists and local residents.
The interactive seminar concluded with a knowledge assessment through a post-test available on the LMS, ensuring that all enthusiastic participants fully absorbed every key point from the discussion. The commitment to remain vigilant and resilient in the face of global health threats was further strengthened through this educational activity.
Participants in this national seminar included representatives from the Denpasar City Health Office, hospitals, lecturers, and students.
