One Mission, Diverse Actions: Udayana University Physiotherapy Student Association Hosts KINESIO XV in Karangasem

To raise public awareness about the importance of maintaining musculoskeletal health and bodily function, the Physiotherapy Student Association of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, organized KINESIO XV as a community service initiative in Karangasem Regency, Bali, on August 1 and 2, 2026. The event was themed "Realizing a Healthy, Independent, and Productive Village Community through Physiotherapy Education Focused on Injury Prevention, Pain Management, and Posture Improvement."

KINESIO XV served as a platform for physiotherapy students to contribute directly to the community through health promotion and preventive activities. The program reached not only the general village population but also the educational sector through a "Road to School" initiative held at SMAN 1 Manggis.

During the "Road to School" activity, students educated pupils on the importance of maintaining physical health from a young age. The educational material focused on proper posture, injury prevention, and daily habits that impact musculoskeletal health. The education was delivered using an interactive and accessible approach, enabling students to recognize risk factors and adopt healthy habits in their daily activities, both inside and outside of school.

The program continued with community service activities in Gegelang Village. One key initiative was "Fisioterapi Sapa Warga" (Physiotherapy Reaches Residents), which involved direct home visits to bring physiotherapy education and services closer to the community. Through this activity, students conducted preliminary assessments of various issues—such as pain, injuries, physical activity limitations, and postural problems—that could affect residents' ability to perform daily tasks.

The event series also featured physiotherapy education sessions covering injury prevention, pain management, and the importance of maintaining good posture during various activities. Education is delivered using a simple, practical approach, enabling the public to independently apply the knowledge gained—whether at home or in the workplace.

As part of early detection efforts, KINESIO XV provides physiotherapy services and screenings for the community. Assessments include measuring vital signs and body mass index (BMI), posture screening, respiratory function checks, and evaluations of functional capabilities. Through these screenings, participants gain an initial overview of their health status and physical function while receiving education tailored to their specific needs.

In addition to health checks, the community is invited to join a group exercise session—promoting physical activity that is safe and suited to individual capabilities. This activity aims to raise awareness about the importance of regular physical activity for maintaining fitness and functional ability, as well as preventing ailments associated with a sedentary lifestyle.

Demonstrating a commitment to social welfare, KINESIO XV also includes the distribution of basic food supplies and donations to the community. These activities serve as a tangible expression of the students' care for the community and strengthen the bond between the academic community and the local area.

Through a series of events—ranging from the "Road to School" program at SMAN 1 Manggis to direct community service in Gegelang Village—KINESIO XV strives to expand the role of physiotherapy in health promotion and disease prevention. Physiotherapy plays a vital role not only in rehabilitation after an impairment has occurred but also in helping the public identify risk factors, prevent injuries, maintain healthy movement, and preserve the body's ability to remain active and productive.

KINESIO XV was attended by the Coordinator of the Bachelor of Physiotherapy Study Program, Ftr. Ari Wibawa, S.St.Ft., M.Fis. The event stands as a testament to the contribution of Udayana University Faculty of Medicine students in fulfilling the university's role through community service. By prioritizing education, early detection, physical activity, and direct community engagement, this initiative aims to foster a society that is more health-conscious, self-reliant in maintaining physical well-being, and capable of carrying out daily activities in a healthy and productive manner.
