Physiotherapy Program at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud), Hosts Workshop on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Curriculum Development

The Bachelor’s and Professional Physiotherapy Study Programs at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud), held a workshop on curriculum development based on the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework. This academic event took place over two days—Friday and Saturday, October 23–24, 2026—at the Dr. A.A. Made Djelantik Meeting Room, located in the FK Unud building on the Sudirman Campus, Denpasar.

The workshop, themed "Developing an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Curriculum to Produce Excellent, Adaptive, and Relevant Physiotherapy Graduates," aimed to align the curriculum with the evolving landscape of scientific knowledge, the integration of the latest healthcare technologies, the expectations of stakeholders, and current national higher education policies. A key strength of the Bachelor’s and Professional Physiotherapy Study Programs is their focus on "Tourism-Based Physiotherapy"—an approach centered on the physical health and fitness of both tourists and workers within the tourism industry.

The event was officially opened by the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at FK Unud, Prof. dr. I Made Ady Wirawan, S.Ked., M.P.H., Ph.D. In his opening remarks, Prof. Ady Wirawan emphasized the importance of reconstructing the curriculum to ensure that graduates are not only theoretically sound but also possess practical, adaptive skills. "The primary challenge for professional programs today lies in strengthening educational training sites, alongside the urgent need to standardize a competency assessment system that is both consistent and accountable. Physiotherapy education possesses unique characteristics, as clinical training requires independent, hands-on practical experience. Therefore, the formulation of Graduate Learning Outcomes (GLOs) and the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum structure must be designed in an integrated manner to ensure that graduates are well-prepared when they enter the workforce," asserted Prof. dr. I Made Ady Wirawan, S.Ked., M.P.H., Ph.D.

The workshop agenda is structured over two days:

• Day One (Friday, October 23, 2026): Focuses on the clinical curriculum session, featuring expert speakers from the Indonesian Physiotherapists Association (IFI) and the Indonesian Association of Physiotherapy Education (APTIFI). This is followed by a stakeholder hearing, involving employers, alumni, student representatives, and faculty members.

• Day Two (Saturday, October 24, 2026): Dedicated to refining the curriculum design—led by the Quality Assurance and Educational Development Unit (UP3M) of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud)—as well as group work on defining GLOs and the macro-structure of curriculum blocks. The event concludes with a validation session, the formalization of recommendations, and the signing of the official minutes.

Through this workshop, the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University is committed to developing a robust curriculum structure, a reliable assessment system, and a solid framework for managing clinical practice. This initiative aims to produce a generation of physiotherapists who are competent, professional, and fully prepared to meet the various challenges within the medical workforce.
