Preventing Stunting Early On: Udayana University’s Nursing Program Hosts Interactive Education in Gianyar

The Undergraduate Nursing Study Program at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud), successfully conducted the "Udayana Mengabdi" (Udayana Serves) program, targeting adolescents and prospective brides and grooms. Centered on the theme "Interactive Pre-marital Education: Using Sociodrama Methods for Early Stunting Prevention," the event took place at the Guwang Village Head's Office meeting room in Gianyar on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

The event was officially opened by the Acting Village Head of Guwang, Mr. I Nyoman Sarwaedi, S.Sos., MAP, and attended by faculty representative Ns. I Gusti Ayu Pramitaresthi, S.Kep., M.Kep. Thirty-five male and female adolescents—representing various *banjars* (local community units) in Guwang Village, Sukawati, Gianyar—participated actively in the program.

The activities began with health services involving screenings and simple physical examinations aimed at stunting prevention among adolescents. These examinations included anthropometric measurements (body weight and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference/MUAC), blood pressure checks, and hemoglobin (Hb) level testing.

Following the physical examinations, the event proceeded with the screening of an educational sociodrama video illustrating stunting prevention starting from the dating phase. Moving into the core educational session, participants received instruction on two essential topics:

1. "Investing in the Future: Caring for Reproductive Organs Today for Stunting-Free Children Tomorrow," presented comprehensively by dr. I Gusti Ngurah Pramesemara, S.Ked., M.Biomed., Sp.And.

2. "Strong Mind, Great Family: Stress Management and Pre-marital Psychological Readiness," presented by Ns. Putu Ayu Emmy Savitri Karin, S.Kep., MNS. Through the implementation of the Udayana Mengabdi Program, these preventive activities are expected to continue on an ongoing basis, serving as a long-term solution to break the chain of stunting through interventions initiated during adolescence.
