Udayana University Faculty of Medicine Surgery Study Program Workshop Agrees on Strategic Vision for Minimally Invasive Surgery and Medical Tourism

The Surgery Specialist Study Program at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud), held a workshop in the form of a Focus Group Discussion (FGD). This event was organized as a strategic move to enhance the quality of specialist education and healthcare services. It took place on Saturday, July 11, 2026, in the Nakula Room on the 5th floor of the Polyclinic Building at Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital (RSUP Prof. Ngoerah).

The workshop was attended by leadership from the Udayana University Faculty of Medicine and Prof. Ngoerah Hospital, including the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. dr. I Gede Eka Wiratnaya, Sp.O.T., Subsp. Onk. Ort. R(K).; the Director of Prof. Ngoerah Hospital, Dr. I Gusti Ngurah Ketut Sukadarma, S.Kp., M.Kes.; the Director of Medical and Nursing Services, Dr. dr. I Made Darmajaya, Sp.B, Sp.BA, Subsp.DA(K).; the Director of HR, Education, and Research, Ken Wirianti, S.E.; the Head of the Surgery Department, Prof. Dr. dr. Putu Anda Tusta Adiputra, Sp.B, Subsp.Onk(K).; the Coordinator of the Surgery Specialist Study Program, Dr. dr. Made Agus Dwianthara Suetha, Sp.B, Subsp.BD(K).; and the Coordinator of UP3M, Dr. dr. I Wayan Juli Sumadi, S.Ked., Sp.P.A., Subsp.M.S.(K). Also in attendance were professors, teaching staff, and members of the academic community from the Surgery Specialist Study Program.

During the active and constructive FGD sessions, four main agenda items were discussed. In addition to formulating the study program's vision and mission, the forum covered the introduction of the Quality Assurance and Development Team (TPPM) lead, updates on the adaptation of trainees' clinical rotation schedules, and the implementation plan for a new on-call system for residents.

A key outcome of the workshop was the agreement on a new vision for the General Surgery Specialist Study Program at the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University: "To establish the General Surgery Specialist Study Program as a center for education and research that produces graduates who are independent, culturally grounded, and excel in the field of minimally invasive surgery, thereby supporting health tourism at both national and global levels."

This vision serves as the strategic foundation for designing future developments in education, research, and community service—ensuring alignment and synergy with the future development trajectory of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University.
