CPHI FK Unud Together with LPPM Unud Invite the Indonesian Ministry of Health to Handle the Problem of Shackling in Bali
In order to explore the problem of shackling in patients with mental disorders in Bali, the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of Udayana University through the PUI Center for Public Health Innovation (CPHI) invited the Director of Health Services and Primary Services, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, dr. Imran Pambudi, MPHM, to discuss the obstacles and challenges in mental health service efforts in Bali with the hope of providing input to find the best solution in handling shackling in Indonesia.
This meeting was held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at 09.00 - 12.00 WITA in the Meeting Room of the KMKP Department, FK Udayana University. This event was attended by the Chairperson of PUI CPHI FK UNUD, Prof. dr. Pande Putu Januraga, M.Kes., Dr.PH., Lecturer Staff of the Department of Psychiatry, FK UNUD, Dr. dr. Cokorda Bagus Jaya Lesmana, Sp.KJ (K)., MARS., residents of the Psychiatric Specialist Program, Head of the Bali Branch of PDKI, Dr. dr. Putu Aryani, MIH., Sp.KKLP. Sub.Sp.COPC., and representatives from the Suryani Institute for Mental Health Foundation.
This discussion discussed the difficulty of providing pre- and post-hospital care for patients with severe mental disorders such as schizophrenia, the lack of family readiness in caring for patients who have returned home which leads to relapse and re-confinement. In the discussion, stakeholders agreed that in an effort to treat schizophrenia patients, a community and family-based rehabilitative care center is needed that is acceptable to the local culture.
The role of volunteers or mental health cadres is needed to help treat patients with schizophrenia. In the discussion, the Director of Yankes Primer, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, plans to conduct further consolidation at the central policy level. The Director General also asked for support from the Head of CPHI FK UNUD and the teaching staff to coordinate initial research and initiate collaborative programs with the community that can support mental health services in Bali.
