Field Assessment of LAM-PTKes Accreditation for the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine Specialist Study Program
The Independent Accreditation Institute for Higher Education in Health (LAM-PTKes) conducted a field assessment for the accreditation of the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine Specialist Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud). This specialist study program accreditation aims to ensure educational quality meets national and global standards, improve the quality of competent graduates, and provide formal recognition of the appropriateness of educational provision. Furthermore, this process is expected to foster a culture of continuous quality improvement.
The field assessment was officially opened in the Dr. A.A. Made Djelantik Meeting Room, FK Unud Building, Denpasar, and was held over three days, May 11–14, 2026. The assessment was conducted by three assessors:
1. Prof. dr. Wiwien Heru Wiyono, Ph.D., Sp.P(K)., FISR., FCCP
2. Prof. dr. Rahmawati Minhajat, Ph.D., Sp.PD-KHOM., FINASIM
3. Prof. Dr. dr. H. Djanggan Sargowo, Sp.PD., Sp.JP(K)., FIHA., FACC., FCAPC., FESC., FASCC
The opening ceremony began with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. dr. I Gede Eka Wiratnaya, Sp.OT(K), Subsp.Onk.Ort.(R), and the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Udayana University, Prof. Ir. I Nengah Sujaya, M.Agr.Sc., Ph.D., who also officially opened the event.
In his remarks, Prof. Eka expressed his appreciation to the assessors who attended the evaluation. Currently, the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University manages 38 study programs, consisting of six undergraduate programs, four professional programs, three master's programs, one doctoral program, 21 specialist programs, and three subspecialty programs. On this occasion, the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University again underwent a field assessment process by LAM-PTKes, focusing on the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine Specialist Study Programs as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the quality of medical education.
"Accreditation of the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine Specialist Study Programs is crucial amidst Udayana University's preparations for higher education accreditation (APT). The university is targeting four additional study programs with superior status to strengthen the institution's position. Previously, the Internal Medicine Subspecialty Study Program and the Biomedical Sciences Doctoral Study Program achieved superior status. Meanwhile, the Thoracic, Cardiac, and Vascular Surgery Specialist Study Program (BTKV) has also completed a similar process and is expected to achieve optimal results. We hope the results of this external assessment align with the internal efforts undertaken. The faculty leadership is committed to fully supporting the provision of data and documentation to achieve superior status," said Prof. Eka.
Meanwhile, Prof. Sujaya stated that Udayana University, as a globally competitive institution, must continue to transform to meet the demands of improving the quality of education. Quality assurance is a vital aspect, particularly for specialist study programs, which play a strategic role in preparing competent and qualified healthcare workers. Therefore, the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI), as mandated by the National Education System Law and Regulation of the Minister of Education, Science, and Technology Number 39 of 2025, must be implemented consistently through the establishment, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement of standards.
The accreditation process aims to ensure that study programs meet established quality standards. This not only serves as an instrument for quality monitoring and improvement, but also provides assurance to the public that graduates possess competencies appropriate to the needs of healthcare services.
"We hope that the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine Specialist Study Program can provide the broadest possible access to assessors, so that optimal input can be obtained for future quality improvement. This quality must be continuously maintained and enhanced, not only at the study program level, but also at Udayana University as a whole," added Prof. Sujaya.
The opening ceremony was also attended by the Head of the Educational Functional Unit of Prof. Sujaya General Hospital. Ngoerah Denpasar, the Head of the Unud Institute of Public Health (LPPM Unud), the Head of the Unud Institute of Public Health (LP3M Unud), representatives from the Unud Library Technical Implementation Unit (UPT), the Head of the Unud Faculty of Medicine Senate, the Vice Deans of the Faculty, the Study Program Coordinators, the Heads of Departments, and the Unit Coordinators within the Faculty, as well as the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine Specialist Study Program Accreditation Task Force.
During the field assessment, the assessment team carried out various activities, including:
1. Interviews with faculty leaders, study program managers, and the task force team
2. Evaluation of lecturers in the study programs
3. Interviews with educational staff related to academic and non-academic services
4. Interviews with graduate users
5. Discussions with students Students
6. Review of the main teaching hospital
7. Review of satellite platforms and superior facilities and infrastructure
Through this activity, it is hoped that the Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine Specialist Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, can continue to strengthen its academic quality and institutional governance to achieve superior accreditation and make a real contribution to society.
