According to the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. dr. I Ketut Suyasa, Sp.B., Sp.OT(K), Convalescent Plasma Therapy is a new breakthrough developed as an alternative to healing Covid-19. This effort is carried out by giving plasma from recovered Covid-19 patients to be donated to patients who are still being treated.
The blood donation was attended by 172 donors who had fulfilled the requirements from a total of 219 registrants. Most of the donors came from resident doctors, specialists, FK Unud employees, members of the TNI and Polri. Meanwhile, donors for Convalescent Plasma Therapy were followed by 3 donors who had gone through the screening stage from a total of 9 registrants.
To increase the number of donors, the Faculty of Medicine collaborates with various institutions and agencies, both the Indonesian National Police and the Bali Provincial Health Service. Previously, Convalescent Plasma Therapy had been carried out for the first time for Covid-19 patients who were treated at the Unud Hospital with the help of plasma from the RSPAD. The results are clinically improving Covid-19 patients, so this alternative is expected to continue to be developed in handling Covid-19.
Commander of Korem 163 Wirasatya Brigadier General Husein Sagaf, SH welcomed the collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University and the Indonesian National Police in order to support Convalescent Plasma Therapy as an effort to overcome Covid-19. This collaboration is the first time that the TNI and Polri have done this with academics from the Faculty of Medicine. He hopes that similar cooperation can continue to create a Covid-free Bali.
The Faculty of Medicine also compiled the book "Guidelines for Convalescent Plasma Therapy" and the book "Covid-19 Response Based on Villages and Traditional Villages in Bali" in Indonesian and Balinese. The books were handed over to the Danrem 163 Wirasatya, the Denpasar Police Chief, the Head of the Bali Provincial Health Office and the Head of the Bali Region IDI.
The handover of these books is a manifestation of the Faculty of Medicine's concern for the environment, to increase the synergy of universities with local governments, to educate the public about Convalescent Plasma Therapy and the prevention of Covid starting from Villages and Traditional Villages.
