Specialist Trainee Emergent Clinical Skills Training 2024

Participants of the new Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) for the Even Semester of the 2024/2025 academic year enthusiastically participated in the "Emergency Clinical Skills Training" organized by the Professional Education Implementation Coordination Unit (KP3) of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (FK Unud). A total of 176 new students of the FK Unud Specialist Doctor Education Program Even Semester FY 2024 participated in intensive activities for 3 days starting from February 19-21, 2024, in Lecture Room 4.01 and 4.02 FK Unud Building and Skill Lab Cakra Vidya Usadha Building (CVU) FK Unud. 


This activity was coordinated by Dr. Pontisomayasa Parami, Sp.An, MARS, Ns. I Kadek Saputra, M.Erg.NERS, S.Kep, and Ftr. Anak Agung Gede Angga Puspa Negara, S.Ft., M.Fis. The first day, began with a preliminary evaluation (pre-test) which aims to measure the participants' initial understanding of the concepts and skills of the emergency clinic. The material was delivered by the facilitator lecturers through lecture and discussion methods. The material involved in-depth clinical topics such as Airway Management and Ventilation Support by Dr. I Wayan Aryabiantara, Sp.An, KIC, and Respiration & Hemodynamic Monitoring by Prof. Dr. Tjok Gde Agung Senapathi, Sp.An, KAR. The activity continued with the delivery of other materials such as Hypovolemic Shock Management, Septic Shock, to specific skills such as Vascular Access by dr. I Ketut Wibawa Nada, SpAn, FAKV.


On the second day, the series of materials involved other clinical aspects, such as Emergencies in Metabolic/Endocrine Disorders presented by Dr. dr. I Made Pande Dwipayana, Sp.PD-KEMD, FINASIM, and Emergencies in Pediatric Diseases by dr. Ida Bagus Suparyatha, Sp.A(K). The participants were also invited to understand in-depth clinical cases, such as cases of Malignancy and Final Procedures by dr. I Gede Budhi Setiawan, Sp.B(K)Onk, as well as explore topics such as Blood Transfusion, the Role of Endoscopy, to Pain Management by Dr. dr. Putu Eka Widyadharma, M.Sc, Sp.N(K), FIN.


The third day culminated with the implementation of clinical skills practice in the Cakra Vidya Usada (CVU) Skill Lab Building. Participants were divided into 6 groups, going through 6 action stations with the guidance of tutors and facilitators. Skills practiced include Airway Management, Ventilation Support and O2 Therapy, Cardiovascular Diagnostics, to Cardio Pulmocerebral Resuscitation.


The training concluded with a summative evaluation in the form of a post-test and qualitative assessment. Significant improvement was seen in the mean post-test score and score range, reflecting mastery of the material and emergency skills. Most participants provided positive feedback, were very satisfied, and recognized the benefits of this training, which will hopefully support the PPDS education journey at FK UNUD. Evaluation of the training organization also reflected high satisfaction, with a number of participants wanting increased practice time and manikin availability.


The closing of the event was carried out by the Chairperson of the Professional Education Implementation Coordination Unit, Dr.dr. Dyah Kanya Wati Sp.A (K), who congratulated all participants who successfully passed. The participants will receive a training certificate that can be used as one of the requirements in taking PPDS Education at IGNG Prof. Ngourah Hospital and Network Hospitals. In addition, the message from the Head of KP3 was to invite participants to continue to improve their learning abilities, discipline, and prepare prerequisite documents, such as STR and STR-P, during their education.
