Supporting the Improvement of Tourism in Bali, FK Unud Organizes Webinar "Holistic Approach in the Implementation of Wellness Tourism to Support Tourism Destinations in Bali"


In the midst of increasingly fierce global competition, Bali needs to adopt innovative and sustainable strategies to maintain its competitiveness as a tourist destination. The implementation of wellness tourism with a holistic approach can be one of the solutions to meet the needs of modern travelers who are looking for more than just an ordinary vacation. In addition, this approach is also in line with the government's efforts to promote sustainable and environmentally sound tourism. Supporting this tourism promotion strategy, the Master of Public Health Science Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University (MIKM FK UNUD) held a webinar with the theme "Holistic Approach in the Implementation of Wellness Tourism to Support Tourism Destinations in Bali". This seminar was held to increase public understanding of regulations related to wellness tourism, implementation of wellness tourism to support tourism health in Bali, and increase understanding of the role of health promoters in optimizing the implementation of wellness tourism to support tourism health in Bali.


This webinar was opened with remarks by the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs and Information of the Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University Prof. dr. I Md. Ady Wirawan, MPH, Ph.D., who said that the field of public health can play an active role in the success of one of the supporting industries in tourism or wellness tourism. "We can do everything to ensure that those who are business actors in this sector can have the same understanding for health and safety efforts," he said.


The first material was delivered by drg. Desak Gede Eka Variasih, MAP as Head of the Primary Health Care Section of the Bali Provincial Health Office. He delivered material with the theme "Regulations Related to Wellness Tourism in Supporting Tourism Health". In his presentation, drg. Desak said that the organization of health tourism consists of medical tourism, fitness and herbal tourism, health science tourism, health sports tourism. Regulations relating to health tourism itself, one of which is contained in the circular letter of the Director General of Yankes Kemenkes RI NO. HK. 02.02/IV/0238/2020 DATE 30 JANUARY 2020 Regarding the Implementation of Traditional Health Services for Wellness for Patients, Visitors, and Staff in Hospitals. In Bali itself, there are still opportunities to develop Traditional Health, including; Balinese cultural culture which is closely related to the tradition of medicine sourced from nature, sufficient traditional health human resources, typical Balinese tourism with a distinctive culture and culture.

The next session was filled by the Coordinator of the Travel Medicine Unit of FK UNUD, Dr. dr. Made Agus Hendrayana, M.Ked., who presented the topic "Approach and Optimization of Wellness Tourism Implementation in supporting Health Tourism". He said that Wellness Tourism is an activity of traveling in search of fitness, comfort, well-being in the form of unique, authentic or wisdom therapies that are not available in the place of origin. The wellbeing in question is based on the 9 dimensions of Wellness. Wellness Tourism is currently combined with other tourism activities and has been regulated in the regulations of the ministry of tourism and the ministry of health.


The third session was filled by Mrs. Dinar Saurmauli Lubis, SKM, MPH, Ph.D as a Lecturer in Health Promotion MIKM FK UNUD, with the theme "The Role of Health Promoters in Optimizing Preventive and Promotive Efforts in the Field of Public Health to Create Holistic Health in Tourism Areas". He said that a promoter is anyone who has graduated from education and has the ability to manage IEC programs, health promotion, health advocacy and community empowerment. For promoters, efforts in health focus on promotive and preventive efforts. There are several roles of health promoters, the main one of which is to ensure that a person doing Wellness Tourism stays safe, healthy, and does not experience any accidents in the tourist attractions.


The seminar received positive feedback and high enthusiasm from the 220 participants who attended. The open interactive discussions in each session also showed how interested and concerned the academic, medical, and local communities were about wellness tourism in their respective environments.


This seminar is expected to be the first step to encourage further awareness and support for the content of wellness tourism, especially in the student environment.
